Chests rarely have anything fragile in them, I just kick them against walls until the lock breaks.

If you go to the bottom of Attnamese Catacombs, you might find someone carrying a hexagonal/octagonal key, too.
Is that random? I only got hexagonal keys, while all the meteoric steel chests had octagonal locks

Yeah, the key is random. Sometimes the streaks of bad luck are incredible.

Any tips on how to survive the crystal caves? Do I need any specific armor, weapons or items that would be of any help?

Make sure you have a weapon that your character is good at blocking/parrying with and have strong chest armor, around ten points should work. And don't be burned, but I think you know that.

Also invisibility is good, because the crystal golems cannot see invisible and you can just run around them.

If you can pray to Nefas, wait until you have a mistress or two and let them handle the majority of the enemies.

Loricatus can harden ANY item in your hands - this means you can cleverly (with some luck) use Loricatus to act as free harden material for your armors too, not just weapons.

if you just strip everything off except for the 1 item that you want hardened, as long as he chooses to bless you with harden material, that item will be chosen

Tried to wish for a wand of polymorph but the genie told me to be more specific. I remember this was possible in the past, can you not wish for a wand of polymorph anymore? I even tried different spellings and capitalization of the words.

If one uses a weapon with two hands, if one is artificial and has obscene dex, and the other one isn't, then does one attack with the speed of the natural arm?

If it's a one handed weapon it definitely checks which hand it is in. Not sure about two-handed though.

My naive assumption is that for a weapon wielded in both hands, it would use your displayed (that is, average) dexterity and strength for all calculations. Anyone with source access and time to kill want to check?

I abused half a dozen wands of teleport to get a meteoric steel chest to a dungeon vendor while Overloaded! and sell it for an obscene amount of money. Sadly after all these years that's the first time the idea has ever occurred to me.

So, it turns out, that if you sever a skeleton's limb when there is a dog/jackal nearby, the animal is going to eat it and become tame, didn't know it worked that way.
