If I'm not completely mistaken, that's because the boots spawned with one negative enchantment level. Just like any other piece of equipment, gear with stat boosts can spawn with negative enchants. Only difference is that normal gear doesn't have the initial +1 enchant stuck on them.

The odds have to be extremely low, however. I believe this is the first time I've ever found a pair of boots of agility with any enchantment other than +1.

They're more common than what you'd think. About a fifth of stat-boosters you find in UT will be unenchanted, in my experience.

Wands of resurrection work on banana peels. If you use it on a banana peel from a holy banana, you get an ordinary banana.
This also works if you pray to Mellis with a banana peel in your inventory, he will "fill" the "empty container" with banana flesh, and the result is a fresh banana.

I was bored and tried weather one can survive using the backpack of a veteran kamikaze dwarf in wizmode when I enchanted my cloak of fire resistance up to +17.
It was Clivan, no idea weather it works in Ivan too.
I always thought 16 was the highest possible enchantment.

iirc you can effectively keep enchanting items for a long time, because all that happens when you enchant is that the chance of the next enchant level failing increases. Might also be based on INT.
System would indicate in graphic if person is mounted on horse or not.
Same system also show if person mounted on boar, elephant, polar bear etc.
Or if person mounted on ass.

Nope. Nothing to do with INT. You can see this for yourself when you try enchanting a pair of boots up to +50 like Bored once did.

It's not going to be very viable to try it in a legitimate game.

I'm putting it down to being another in-joke by the devs. Speaking of which, who's the guy getting hit with a coke bottle in the graphics files?

Don't you have to be polymorphed into a canine to eat a bone first? Random factoid that I vaguely remember from reading the source...
I think that guy is the Head Graphics Designer, but i'm not sure. Someone should start an IVAN quiz.

are the original creators active on the message board at all? I find it interesting that we are so interested the game, while the creaotrs seem lost to history.

The original devs have been so long absent from the IVAN community it's not even funny anymore.

i would love to see a history of IVAN, how it got started, the original ideas for the game framework, when they started, who they were. i think it would be really interesting.

The only one that could possibly fill us in on such is Kahvi. The lot of you could start dropping by IRC and begging him for storytime

Hey, I'm having some trouble with the fullscreen option for IVAN, sure it'll make the window as big as i need it but it won't actually scale the graphics so that i can SEE what im doing, i've been using the magnifier for windows for a long time now. I'm wondering if its a software issue on my end related to my graphics drivers on my monitor, but im not sure.

Monitor: Hewlett Packard HP S2031 1600x900 60Hz
Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560

In short i just need the game to stretch at at least a 1:1 ratio, how would i go about doing that, if you need more information i can provide it.

EDIT: I am an idiot and don't know how to monitor, in other words, i fixed it.

Do you guys notice patterns in what spawns in certain games? I've seen at least 5 strongboxes this game by GC6 when I've seen very few previously... Maybe it's just one of those psychological phenomenon.

You're not the only one. I've noticed patterns where the game likes to spawn lots of certain items too.
Good examples have been Armors of Great Health, cans of school food (great for END), and troll hide capes.

I'm not entirely sure whether these were caused by some coding in the game or just random strokes of luck though.
System would indicate in graphic if person is mounted on horse or not.
Same system also show if person mounted on boar, elephant, polar bear etc.
Or if person mounted on ass.

Batman's post about the minefield reminded me of something.

Are the item spawn ratios randomized differently for each new character, much like how every different character has different training rates for his stats?

I have definitely noticed games where I get an absurd amount of cloning or mirroring scrolls, or oil lamps, and others where I struggle to find any that are not guaranteed (i.e. in NPC inventories)

I had one game where there were literally enough cloaks to clothe the entire population of IVAN planet.
But could I find body armor? No.
Somehow survived long enough to get butchered by Rondol who really had no reason to show up other than to spite me.

2 questions:

1- Does having valuable items in your inventory (not worn) affect your danger level calcualtion? I wonder if carrying around a lot of valuable rings and such boost the spawn level.

2 - is poly-piling affected by dungeon depth? will sapping my piles on GC4 generat better items than GC2? Its been my causal observation that it does not seem to have an effect.

1. I still don't get why people make such a big deal of the danger level. That aside, I've never noticed an increase for merely carrying items (though that might be due to me not bothering to carry much excess weaponry or armor). AFAIK, rings and amulets don't affect it at all or only by a minute amount.

2. Polypiling is not affected by depth.
