i am having a little trouble following the actual execution of the wand of acid rain sumo trick. so you go down the stairs and break a wand of acid then challenge the sumo?

Find some means of invisibility or lure Huang outside far enough that he can't see you with food (steal some bananas from the banana drop if you have to).
Next, go down the stairs and zap your wand of acid rain north where Huang would normally appear in the sumo match. Wait a bit for the acid to pool on the floor, then go upstairs and challenge Huang.

Holy shit you're right. That said, if you melted bits off of him it gives you lumps of human flesh, and if you eat those or his severed limbs, it counts as an evil deed (I killed him as Oree). Perhaps he had a demon's heart? It seems a little too specific for it to be an oversight on the Dev team's part.

Maybe the devs didn't see it as such an evil deed, to eat the corpse of a raving capitalist.

I tried eating him in CVS and got the evil deed message...

For CVS at least, eating something counts as cannibalism if it's made of the same material as your torso (or body if you're polymorphed into a limbless creature).

I don't think there's any specific code for that, no.
Should there be? Yes.

Hungry & 10 / 50 HP
Polymorph into an ant
Drink a health potion
Become satiated & 5 / 5 HP
Polymorph back into yourself
???

Can an ant quaff a potion, does it have the means to open the bottle? How about canned food? Does the hunger state stay? How is health status handled in an event like this?

Yours sincerely,

Hunger state doesn't carry over between polymorphs, and neither does HP or bodypart damage conditions.
For some reason anything and everything that eats things can open a bottle and drink from it regardless of whether it makes sense, but meanwhile you can't, say, apply a wand with no arms.

Yeah, I figured as much. I'm in favor of the states resetting when polymorphing (as long as they reset again when morphing back as well), although that could be abused as a hunger prevention method.
The thing about opening bottles and tins seems like a bug to me. Maybe we should add something like "has_hands=true" into the code for creatures that can open doors, tins, bottles and such, and have the game check for it each time you try. Doesn't sound too hard to me.

The problem with checking for hands is, I distinctly recall that the devs planned for every creature to use the paper doll eventually. Complete with flying limbs and all. Which would make checking for hands redundant.

You have to be invisible to go downstairs without fighting (wand/fountain/mushroom/ring/Saalthul)

I just beat HMP as a werewolf. Caught lycanthropy from a fountain on UT3. My character was low LS and wearing bronze mail so I'd run through all the food. I was in with Loricatus and Sophos. I knew I could win the fight handily as a werewolf but couldn't get fat enough. Banana growers were all stuck in the banana shop from science talking. I had a trap though and used it to dismember Kaethos and the tourists (left Kaethos alive and rolling) then ate them all as a werewolf. When you do so it is not an evil deed and does not make you chaotic, which is good because my religion in mellis to seges eventually. Had to buy a few bananas for dessert to bloated wolf status the it was a three shot fight.

That's an easy legit sumo win using random game events.

Anyone else have legit sumo win stories?

What causes monsters to spawn with ridiculously negative-enchanted equipment from time to time? I mean, sure, you see variable enchants on monster equipment usually, but then sometimes there is that one monster that has -4 and -5 on every piece of its equipment. It seems to most often occur on skeletons, but I recently killed an Ur-Khan whose equipment was junk like that.

Skeletons spawn with equipment that is pre-disenchanted by -2 before it's even rolled, so they naturally have a higher chance of having ass equipment. And that's on top of the chance of the equipment being naturally enchanted (or disenchanted).

As for Ur-khan it's reasonably likely he just picked up that ass equipment - due to the way the game code works, enemy AI will always try to equip anything it finds with a higher enchantment than what it currently has - regardless of whether that enchantment is negative or not.

He was using his native equipment (ruby halberd, spider silk boots etc.). It was in UT4, if that matters. Interesting about the higher enchants though - so does that mean a kobold lord will replace his iron spear +2 with a steel spear -4, for example? That's weird. Haven't noticed that happening before.

Sometimes things do spawn with heavy negative enchants on everything, which is what Kamos is probably after here. I haven't got the slightest clue why it happens, it's very likely to be a bug.

Hmm, we should probably put that in the bugs thread then for further investigation.

Yes indeed. Some people like to carry around piles of heavily disenchanted equipment to make some of the named enemies easier.

Just a general tip based on a recent death: don't step into an armed bear trap in Merka's shop. If you break it while breaking free, Merka will attack you. I guess you might teleport out, although he might still persecute you for teleporting his bear trap away.

The asshole will also lay claim to the possessions of monsters you kill inside his shop, after watching you kill them right in front of him and his 4 guards.

Turns out Salubris (Seges' archangel) will reattach your limbs for free. I was heading to the priestess in NA (where I had left the angel) to put my leg back on, when suddenly:
