That is probably the right way to handle this problem.

I agree.

I like that you can piss off your pet and have it cause damage. I don't think that's an exploit really

I like that Attnam won't help you kill a pet that you betrayed - after all it's not their fault. Still feels wrong that it doesn't get punished for breaking the law like the player does.

The wiki mentions that the otagonal/hexagonal keys can be generated in shops, is this true? I have never seen one generated randomly in any of my games (at least as I recall?)

The data files assign hexagonal, octagonal, and heart-shaped keys possibility 0, which presumably means they can't be generated as random items (they are in certain characters' inventories) or wished for.

I wonder if simply adding the IsScary flag (or whatever it was Brown Gas had) to mustard gas would be sufficient to stop people walking into it and make people walk out of it?
Might be a problem if they get stuck in the middle of a 3x3 cloud though.
System would indicate in graphic if person is mounted on horse or not.
Same system also show if person mounted on boar, elephant, polar bear etc.
Or if person mounted on ass.

That's the kind of thing safety maps are designed for (see here and here). Rather than pathfinding away from the player (as in those examples), it would pathfind away from a combination of hostile creatures and environmental dangers. Once the NPC is in a tile it judges to be safe, and isn't panicked, its normal AI can take over again.
The same code could also make magpies much more difficult to track down. If that's not how they already work.

They're in 0.50.5, but they don't appear either randomly or in preset places. In wizmode you can wish for a chest and a key, but trying to unlock the chest gives the message "The lock is broken" (just like Petrus's wives' belts). If you actually break the chest with a heart-shaped lock, the resulting chest with a broken lock doesn't register as repairable (but nor does any chest).

Every time you look at a visible tile, there is a 1 in 10,000 chance of seeing a frog eating a magnolia.

My best guess is it's a reference to the film Magnolia, in which it rains frogs. It's not a film I would recommend.

Reading a book or scroll in a poorly lit room hurts your eyes (abuses PER).

Registered just to add my thanks to all the pages and contributors of this thread and the few IVAN forums around. Played IVAN for many years with a break of 2 years between my current play.

one point I noticed while taming the Patrol guard is he is able to move faster than you can read.

also just yesterday I happened to find myself Champion of Valpurus, prayed to him and received an Angel. took her out with me hunting and it's a shame that with running it's easy to outpace her. with this in mind, I locked her into the larger room to the east of Old Attnam for safekeeping, will clone her sometime

I've always thought keeping allies around without them getting lost was rather difficult.
Maybe we should make capable allies (such as angels, blink dogs etc) teleport near you every now and then?

Thank Atavus or your favourite Deity for Magic Whistles

Tried adding a slave to the room, he likes to break the door down. might try a zap of Door see how he fairs against metal.

The trees around Old big Attnam make great material for polypile(more so with Deco's Mithril Boots), got murdered for destroying the Cathedral's trees though.

Careful, zapping a wand of door creation inside a building in Attnam actually makes everyone super mad for some reason.

You can sell your own severed limbs for 1 or 2 gold, too. Only recommended if you've already replaced it.
If you get a light crystal limb from Silva and manage to detach it, it'll sell for much, much more. Which is just about all a light crystal limb is good for!
