Bones let you skew the normal spawn rules, yeah. The minefield should not spawn twice in a normal playthrough.

When trying to kill the Enner via melee (a mistake I make far too often), don't stand next to him horizontally or vertically; you'll take less damage if you stand next to him diagonally.

Here's the formula for the strength of his scream:
int ScreamStrength = int(70 / (hypot(GetPos().X - x, GetPos().Y - y) + 1));

Since it calculates your distance from him based on hypotenuse, standing diagonally will count as being 1 square away (even though you can still attack him diagonally), causing the strength of his scream to be halved.

Ex.
E = Enner
P = Player

###
#EP
###

Here there is no hypotenuse, so the scream strength is (70/(0+1)) = 70.

E = Enner
P = Player

##P
#E#
###

Here the hypotenuse is 1, so the scream strength is (70/(1+1)) = 35.

I tested it out in wizard mode, and with no armor you take around 24 damage when at an angle and 32 damage when directly next to him (of course this doesn't matter at low End since vitals like your head and groin can be killed instantly).

That explains why trapped doors do less damage from a diagonal too, I guess.

If that's true for doors then it's true for all explosions, since the door trap is just a regular explosion. Some quick tests in wizard mode with kamikaze dwarves and wands of fireballs seem to prove that this is the case.

Huh I've always done the diagonal explosion standing when possible, wasn't sure how legit it was though.

Recently I've been training through UT with wooden sticks for weapons. They are treated as blunt weapons and will give you skill useful for the artifact maces. Sticks are one of the few objects that have variable mass; debris from digging walls works, but the best training sticks are dropped by wooden golems. These are apparently the lightest form of stick, weighing less than half as much as a broken bottle. The light weight makes for rapid attacks that do little damage but quickly train dexterity and don't cause fatigue. Sticks seem to train dex faster than broken bottles or banana peels and don't give useless skill, rot, or break. Solid armor is essential for this tactic as repeatedly tapping on your enemies with balsa twigs doesn't make them happy.

Also, is this cheating? Gather a few broken bottles and walk on them to remove a leg. Pray to Sophos, occasionally she will replace the missing leg with one made of ommel cerumen. By repeating these steps as necessary, it is relatively easy to obtain a 5000g chunk of ommel cerumen, enough to instantly grow a huge beard.

They made other ommel materials not changeable (change-into-able) right? Ommel cerumen was just an oversight I think.

If that's the case I think it's still an exploit even though it's not as easy as just changing a chest material.

Hmmm I dunno. Losing a leg and praying can be a lot easier than stumbling across a change material scroll. Not to mention you'd have a technically infinite supply of hypothetical ommel cerumen legs.

Has anyone ever tried killing Huang Ming Pong with banana peels and then resurrecting him with a wand to beat him in the wrestling match?
Also, I think it is impossible to slip on a banana peel in wizard mode.

Not true, at least in CVS:

This does work:

Lost limbs do carry over to the match, hence why people like to make him lose his legs on vomit/bananas/broken glass.

You might also notice the tourist group got caught up in my antics.

Holy crap man, there are lumps of human flesh on the ground! What did you do?
I guess if you find a wand of resurrection in UT you can go back for an easy belt, because when Sumo gets resurrected then he has really low HP.

Easiest way to get the belt before leaving UT:

1) clear up to UT3 while training DEX
2) train unarmed a bit on the plants / other stuff in UT3 for as long as you can without too much risk
3) jog back and kick enough bananas to go bloated + around 30
4) lure the sumo out with a line of 3 bananas (4 squares between each, last one on the doorway)
5) while he's distracted, vomit 14 times on the spot he stands
6) eat up to bloated and wait for him to lose both his legs (and panic)
7) challenge, profit

You don't need a single piece of randomly generated equipment to do it like this, plus you'll always beat him on the first try. Vomiting 14 times I've found to be the optimal, 13 is too low to reliably take out both of sumo's legs (loses one leg, then seems to regenerate fast enough to avoid losing the other) whereas 15 is overkill and is more likely to cause stat loss.

I think this has been mentioned before but blink dogs have a chance to spawn another blink dog when they teleport.
I found this out because I polymorphed myself into a blink dog in New Attnam and attacked Decos, and spawned another (friendly) blink dog when I took a hit and teleported away.

what if after X amount of time shops stuff gets refilled and rolled?

I hate starving to death in shops because they only sell armour and no food.

Tons of gold pieces and lovely armour...but the human inside the armour is dying a slow and painful death because of a lack of nutrition..

god of nutrition Please help me I'm starving!

Firstly, this thread is for miscellany that is actually in the game, not ideas.

Second, that would encourage pissing around and hugging the shops where items would otherwise be limited per game, which is no good.

I am impressed you put time and effort into making a nice gif for us!
And also... that method is going to be somewhat of a problem with certain IVAN versions whose wands of slow actually haste enemies...

Nice. Does zapping AND breaking the wand of haste make it last longer / more powerful? Or were you just showing breaking as an alternative if there are no charges?

It just extends the duration. You really don't want it to run out mid-fight, plus charging a wand of haste just isn't worth it. Might as well just break it.

From Jokes Guide:

"You can also confuse the plants by throwing and breaking a bottle of vodka or valdemar on them"

does this work on other monsters? does it time out? Has this been mentioned before? This is totally cool. I wonder if it works on named enemies.

Yes indeed, both the alcohol types will confuse any monster so long as it doesn't have a confuse-immune tag.
You can also dip your weapons in them if you want, but it isn't much different from just hucking a bottle at them except for the fact it rules out the chance the bottle misses or doesn't break.

It is particularly effective against Genetrix because she will summarily destroy all her guardian plants. The only problem being you're unlikely to find a bottle of alcohol before then unless you're playing unpatched IVAN CVS.

After years of being confused by it, and eventually just assuming it did nothing, I finally figured out what that "Be nice to pets?" option does in CVS... If you set it to 'no', and have a sadist weapon (whip/banana peel/bodyparts/etc) and your pet is a masochist, moving into them will ask "Do you want to punish them?" and if you say yes you'll hit them, instead of just displacing them like normal.

Not very useful it seems, but you can get some whip training in on the slave in Attnam if nothing else (wow... this sounds incredibly dark).
