There are a number of ways in which the character can interact with Gods. You cannot contact any god unless you know the right rituals. You can learn a god's rituals by visiting the god's altar, or reading the god's Book. Praying to Mellis will sometimes result in Mellis sharing knowledge of a god that you have not yet encountered. Reading the book of a certain God will also raise your relation with that god, and to a lesser extent your relation with other gods of a similar alignment.
Praying to a god will have a reward if you are in good relation with that god, and will slightly increase your wisdom. Although each god has a different effect, most will also summon new limbs if you are missing a limb, or possibly summon an Angel to help you. Praying will have a negative effect if you are not in good standing with that god, or if you pray too often. You may only pray to gods that you know the rituals for.
Offering sacrifices to a god will raise your relationship with that god slightly. There are certain items and materials which Gods prefer, which will raise your relationship more than others (as noted by the god thanking you for your "generous offer")
