"The flame on your +8 Flaming Mithril Longsword goes out. You panic!"

I can agree to that, though now I'm wondering about creatures MADE of fire.

Maybe we could have super-dense wood golems that set themselves on fire.
What a lovely idea.
System would indicate in graphic if person is mounted on horse or not.
Same system also show if person mounted on boar, elephant, polar bear etc.
Or if person mounted on ass.

Why not have golems made of gas then ignite them?

So, I found something out the hard way. I went into Wizard Mode to spawn every item... Something caught fire, and everything exploded.

There is a lot of explosive stuff in that pile. What did you do to trigger the explosion?

I waited. Apparently an object within the pile caught fire from an object in the pile... And chain burnsploded.

That seems quite frightening. I wonder what combination of objects is required to make that happen?

I just tried this myself and nothing much happened other than a Female Tourist killing herself on... something in the pile.
Then again, it WAS raining if that actually changes anything. I'll go run a few more tests.

EDIT: Waited for about 7 hours of in-game time and nothing blew up or caught fire. I think what probably happened was something or someone around New Attnam walked over and set off something while Zayre was waiting around, if I had to guess.
This was on the latest build, 0.50.4
Could also be if Zayre was using one of the older builds? Like the one where entire dungeons used to catch fire by accident?

...You know I suppose the holy banana of oily orpiv and any flaming weapon probably should start burning things on the same tile. Not the floor though or we get the burning dungeon problem again.

Is it possible to heal burned limbs?

I have one character who is stressed because one leg is burned so badly

Another who is stuck in the world map because both legs have been rendered useless

So far as I know you're going to have to remove the affected legs and grow them back or get them replaced by a god.
Not sure how you're going to accomplish that though, pretty sure world map guy is SoL. Beebelbrod can probably get away with stepping in bear traps or broken glass with no boot on that leg.

That's rough.

Yeah the other guy I figured was screwed. I didn't even realize his legs were still burning. I think the body map on the top right should indicate if something is on fire more visibly. Doesn't have to be animated flames, but I was thinking maybe pulsing orange? And then after the flames have gone out, another indicator to show that it's burnt. I'm not sure which of Beebelbrod's legs is burnt

Also I think it'd be good to have some kind of salve or ointment that you could use to heal burns. Maybe not fully, but 90% healed

Would also be good to have someone in at least one of the towns who can heal them, like the priestess heals leprosy.

I agree, there should be an item you can apply on yourself to soothe burns and you should be able to get them healed for a price at a healer - just like how Antidote Liquid and priests work for other nasty problems like leprosy and lycanthropy.

However, having to remove and replace your limbs is pretty brutal. Pretty fitting of IVAN.

Also it's likely a waste but SoCMimg the limb should fix it up good as new. Using a flesh material would even keep its natural stats.

Seges will remove burns if the player is satiated or above. Otherwise Seges will fill your stomach. This seems a little bit undocumented - like how many of the gods would the player need to pray to just to find this out?

Burnt limbs are unbalanced right now. It's a dreadful mistake. It should have a slight/moderately/heavily burnt effect of only 5, 10 and 15 % rather than the 25, 50 and 75 % we have at the moment.

I agree burnt and burning limbs should show up on the mannekin, it would be a quick way to see what is going wrong rather than keeping an eye on the message box all the time.

Priestesses and Priests ought to be able to heal burns, but this has not been implemented yet.

I put up the suggestions on github

My limbs get burned very rarely - most explosions I encounter either kill me or have no effect. I do get a lot of scars, however. The one time I had a stat reduction from burns, Seges was on my prayer list and I discovered naturally that she can heal burns. However, because burns are so rare for me, I thought that it was a scar caused by fire, and the lesson I took home was that Seges heals scars. Which she doesn't.

In conclusion, Seges healing burns is not excessively obscure - she's the only member of the pantheon I would expect that kind of effect from. What is obscure is the difference between burns and scars. One is visible on the character portrait, and the other can be healed by Seges? They should probably be merged.

I don't think they should be merged, as they are both quite different in both flavour and effect. However, making burns visible on the mannequin would be nice.

Not that I have been burning that much without dying to it...

What if all items (in the best case including walls ond other destroyable dungeon features) had an inner "thermal energy counter" and all materials (including those that cannot burn) had a melting point?

That way, you could make fire damage taken by an item or a wall add up to the counter, with the counter slowly decreasing over time. Either strong fire damage or repeated exposure would then be able to increase the counter up to the melting point of a given material, destroying the item or wall in question. Thus burnable items would still be more vulnerable to fire, but even metal walls would eventually melt if you had enough wands and mines.

Equipped items or adjacent walls with high counter could deal fire damage to the player and monsters, and maybe melted items would leave behind puddles of lava that would deal fire damage to anything that stepped into them before disappearing after a while.

If you're going to add that level of detail (which sounds cool!) it might be worth thinking about materials which burn (flesh, wood, cloth, etc) and materials which do not (stone, metal, crystal, etc). Repeatedly hitting a wooden wall with fire bolts might eventually burn it down - but if the wall was made of stone, and you waited in between applications of heat, you'd never make any progress.

I added a couple fire system bugs to GitHub. Another one I noticed was that shopkeepers will still pay for completely unreadable burnt scrolls.

I'm going to have to get used to not just kicking down doors anymore. I've lost way too many scrolls to booby-trapped doors.

Kicking them diagonally reduces the risk a little.

I've taken to carrying around all my extra (intact) bottles, even if I don't know Mellis. I fill them at every fountain, mostly for this exact purpose. They also come in handy if I need to cover ground quickly, as I can run and not worry about exhaustion as much.
