Great ideas. I'll certainly experiment with chaostrom's material suggestions (and branches, as suggested by Apple). I'll probably just ignore the "default", rotting bones, and instead introduce a variety of bone "solid materials".

No scrolls please, as cavemen couldn't read. Instead, pieces of bark that have pictograms in them.

That's what I implemented, actually ("sigils"), except I used stones with pictograms, made of various materials. The wands are in, but they're branches in appearance. I also renamed stat-boosting artifacts to various animals, but that's nothing particularly interesting.

Wow, Cerumen, This is looking pretty cool now. Is the stationary mammoth behemoth along the lines of danger that baby mammoths are? If so, isn't that a lot more deadly than Genetrix?

Thanks.

The stationary mammoth behemoth is currently just Genetrix with mammoth flesh and a different graphic (he also spawns carnivorous plants, heh)

The chief difference is that you can actually eat him after you kill him

Also, currently, with unmodified enemies, the game is pretty hard due to a shortage of strong materials. I've made bones, obsidian and flint stronger and left bronze and iron (very rare, and stronger) in, but still, you usually end up wearing all bronze.

(I've also left in mithril, currently, but it doesn't fit in very well)

If you have any suggestions for new materials or modifyig the current ones, I'm all ears. I'm thinking of things like petrified bone (stronger than regular, maybe a level below ommel one, if ommel bone gets leaved in), jade, and more rock-related materials (what could be used for weapons apart from obsidian and flint?).

It may also be necessary to make the current materials vary more, since flint/obsidian/copper produce roughly the same results, but it's fun to test the neolithic stage materials idea

Some ideas for how traps could work:

First of all, traps more connected with items. For example, valuable stuff could have powerful traps underneath - "Hey look, a belt of... snap! My leg! Where's my leg?" Rooms that have a lot of items could have a larger possibility of traps, with less random corridor ones.

Second of all, different mine mechanics that damage and sever your legs more. So if you step on one, your chance of surviving is bigger, but you'll almost certainly lose both legs. A lot of real-life accidents end up like that

And third of all, more kinds of traps... not to suggest a copy NetHack or ADOM ones, but splashing acid on your face or dissolving your equipment with rust would be nice.

Hmm that gives me an idea I wonder what would happen if I cloned Enner a bunch of times and then got Ischaldirh to spawn.

I believe there's a word for it.

(one minor detail you may notice is that I've replaced helmets with masks, which shows on the character status menu)

Ps. If anyone to use this stuff, feel free to ask - if I add some more things and the game will be actually fun to play, I'll upload it.

Excellent work.

I tried altering the monster template a bit to add a pic in the corner:

http://www.attnam.com/ivanwiki/index.php?title=Template:...

Well, it works (I've used that on Richel Decos page as an example), but the name gets kicked to the left.

It would probably be much easier to add yet another cell for the picture, but whenever I tried this, I couldn't set its size properly and it was either taking over a half of the top bar, or introducing a new row.

I got bored and actually got back to implementing prehistoric-esque Cave Ivan idea-esque stuff:

I didn't touch materials so far. Since I lack the awesome skills to edit the CVS and since IVAN hates getting rid of things (weapon types, materials, etc.), I've used default categories (sometimes renamed).

One thing I forgot to screenshot is that the cans have been changed into bowls.

I was also thinking about changing UT into a glacial tunnel.

Ps. The torch is animated. Took me a while to figure out how to do it.

Once, my character had run into a Turox-wielding skeleton and kicked the bucket. The next time, I encountered a bone level of that guy, prepared this time, and the Turox-wielding skeleton kicked the bucket, earning me a Turox.

Presumably, standing in water without levitation would cause an infinite "do you really want to do this, cheater?" loop. There's no "do you want to put your belt back on, cheater?" or "do you want to polymorph into something that swims, cheater?"

The other portal (The blue one?) is the entrance to another Realm, Oree's Realm, or even Earth! This, can explain how Oree gets Pepsi.

Ivan world seems to be an amalgamation of fantasy and the "real world" - Ivan states that he comes from Russia, even though he's not in the demon realm.

Swords, sharp objects, etc, even when turned into a cloth material, or even flesh, will still cut. Don't eat that +16 Justifer of Banana Flesh just yet!

Never tried it outside of wizard mode, but turning bananas into metal will still let you eat them (yum). If you turn them into human flesh, this will be considered an evil deed. They also suck as weapons, even when made of adamant.

Perception is also used in Dodge and Blocking.

I'm wondering - does Perception in any way affect your ability to find traps? And if it doesn't, does anything, apart from a ring of searching?

Today I have witnessed something weird, and I'm not sure if anyone encountered this before. I was playing IVANT, I lost a leg and an arm, I drank from a fountain and got a bunch of friendly spiders and a friendly dark drog, and it's probably that I was in bad condition.

Anyway, I prayed to Valpurus, the only god I knew, after reading his holy book for maybe twice before it dissappeared. Needless to say, my alignment with him was pretty low. I was expecting him to smite me.

Instead, he gave me a valpurium arm.

(this have me AStr of 100+ and also caused the danger level to skyrocket, think kamikaze dwarves in UT)

I did some tests in wizard mode later with detached limbs and praying to Valpurus, both in IVAN 0.50 and IVANT, and I was unable to reproduce the effect. I got pounded every damn time I prayed with alignment below 1000.

But, in any case, my little tip goes: If all else fail and you miss a limb, try praying to Valpurus.

Yeah, I've noticed after I posted that
