Even the shops are not safe from the menace known as mines.

At least it wasn't a big mine, and at least Merka didn't try to slay me for tripping it...

good thought - I've had this happen before and there was an eddy.

Not to my knowledge. I haven't explored the whole level yet, though.

See if you can find an eddy. Although, if monsters can spawn in there, there's a chance mines can too.

I met no eddies in GC2, and do not recall there being any mentioned as being killed there when I died later, either.

There's a possibility you missed it, eddies can go through walls.

Well, perhaps, but I was there a while, and in fact died there as a result of thinking Merka and his guards would care if a hostile genie showed up (they don't). Unless eddies can go down/up staircases at will, too, I dunno how likely it is that I missed it (I killed an eddy on the floor above).

I am pretty sure a mine has spawned inside the gc shop for me as well, without there being an eddy. There have almost definitely been bear traps, would mines be any different?

Unlikely. If a mine for sale happens to be activated, then that's just too bad. I mean hell, I've had a guy die from an active adamantine bear trap in UT3, it's far from impossible . I'm just trying to nail down the cause for BDR.

Also, Merka and his guards are on a completely neutral team. Nobody cares what they do (except you), and they don't care what anyone else does (except if you piss them off). Hence my "diplomatic immunity perk" in WM.

I think one of these guys says "we have an agreement with the monsters so they don't attack us", something like that.

Well, evidently the agreement was with the people too
