Scrolls are items made of parchment. Reading a scroll will have various effects, as described below. Reading a scroll will raise your intelligence slightly. More powerful scrolls are less common to find, and raise your intelligence more when you read them successfully. You cannot read scrolls while you are confused, and certain creature types cannot read scrolls either. Since scrolls are made of parchment, they can easily be destroyed by fire (except the Encrypted scroll)

Encrypted Scroll

This is a scroll that you are given at the beginning of the game. You must deliver this scroll to Petrus to continue onto your next mission. This scroll cannot be read or destroyed.

Scroll of Change Material

Allows you to change the material of an item or limb. You must have a certain amount of Intelligence in order to change into certain materials.

Scroll of Charging

A scroll of charging will recharge a Wand, giving it the maximum number of charges it previously had. This item cannot be cloned, to avoid abuse.

Scroll of Detect Material

Detects items made of the requested material which are present in the current map. After you finish reading the scroll, items of this material are highlighted, and you make look around the map. This can be useful when fighting the Enner Beast or Mystic Dark Frog, but can be used to find a hidden loot as well.

Scroll of Enchant Armor

Enchants the equipment of your choice. If you have two identical items (e.g. two boots of agility), it will enchant both, but they have to be in exactly the same state (e.g. both broken and covered in water). Enchantment is guaranteed to succeed up to +5, beyond that it becomes less likely the higher it should be enchanted. Unsuccesful enchanting will waste the scroll but the item remains intact.

Scroll of Enchant Weapon

Enchants the weapon of your choice. All rules listed above apply for enchanting weapons, too.

Scroll of Golem Creation

Allows you to create a friendly Golem out of any item. The golem's flesh will be made of the material that you convert.

Scroll of Harden Material

Allows you to harden the material of an item or limb. You must have a certain amount of intelligence in order to harden into certain materials. See scroll of change material above.

Scroll of Repair

Repairs any item or artificial limb, removing broken, rusted or any other condition. Loricatus will sometimes give you a scroll of repair when you pray to him.

Scroll of Taming

Allows you to tame a creature standing next to you, but the taming is not guaranteed to be successful.

Scroll of Teleportation

Teleports you to a random square on the current level, unless you have TeleControl.

Scroll of Wishing

Allows you to wish for an item. Note that not all items can be wished for.
