I hate getting excited about a character, becuase you know whats about to happen!

Seriously though, I fired up IVAN for the first time in an age the other day. without looking i created a new guy and named him Roland, and it brought me to GC 4! i must have had an old guy there i forgot about. I thought about it for a second and remembered I was trying to clear out Attnam using a ressurected hostile enner while poly'd into a ghost (I know it will work!)

Realizing quickly that I dont have the time to concentrate on such an obscure task (twins, with a 3rd on the way!!) I decided to go for a regular elpuri win (again
). Maxed out my equipment, wand o poly'd up some better stuff and set about defeating enner. cleared out CG5 and here is my question: i found Vermis (and a wand of cloning whoo hoo!) in a chest on GC 5 - i am currently wielding Sall'thuul and a whip of thievery. Would dual wielding Saal and Vermis push me over the top in terms of danger level? should i switch to Vermis and the whip? wearing octiron chainmail, helm o brilliance +5, an amulet of ESP, and phoinex feather boots of agitily +5.

Cleared GC 6 and 7, waiting at the down staircase for GC 8. I decided to stick with Sall and the whip, I think going Dual with Sall and Vermis would make it non-stop dwarves and I dont need that right now. I seem to have near permanant tele control from blink dog corpses so its ok no for now.

some new questions:

1 - I have found no ?ochange material in this game and no wishes. Ive hardend my gloves/belt/cloak/boots to phoenix feather. My Int is now 30, can I harden them to Dragon hide, and is it worth the danger level trade off?

2- is there anyway to change the material other than a scroll? if my int is high enough will it harden the material past dragon hide? the wiki seems to say no.

3- I have 2 wands of cloning, a 1 shot and a 3 shot, and 1 scroll of charging. Can I Apply the 1 shot wand to get one last use out of like a wand of mirroring?

4- I seem to remember Elpuri having a special attack that damages wands, is this correct? I dont see anything on the wiki

5 - is there any guaranteed way to generate a momo slime? the last (and only time) I beat elpuri, a momo slime was generated and Elpuri got stuck in the goo and was helpless as I pounded him (her?) with wands. It made it rather simple.

6 - I live in NJ by the areas that were devestated by the flooding - try to keep us in your thoughts because there are a lot of people here without homes and winter is coming. If I ever get a moment I will post some photos, its like they were taken on the moon.

Lots of spoiler-ific info here, which should generally go into the tips and tricks section:
SPOILER ALERT. Click here to see text.
Danger level isn't that big of a deal from my experience, as you generally have good enough gear to deal with the stuff unless you're using like Armor of Great Health +absurd. This is especially the case with weapons, as they generally don't bump your danger level that high compared to the benefits. Regarding Vermis, dump it IMO. It's horrendously annoying to have your opponents get teleported away when you're trying to kill them, which becomes more and more of a problem when you start encountering tougher to kill opponents.

1. Again, don't mind the danger level. Dragon hide is much better than phoenix feather for armor, and not just because PF melts really quickly in any kind of acid.

2. The only other way to harden stuff is praying. And no, you can't harden past dragon hide as there's nothing left to harden into.

3. Yes, applying the 1-shot wands is generally a good idea unless you really want to have that emergency clone of something for some reason.

4. Elpuri's bite damages stuff in your inventory as well as the things on you, which generally means your wands are going to blow up unless they're in boxes. It's not unheard of to have them explode even inside the boxes. This also means you don't want to have any bottles of liquid in your inventory when you take a hit. Unbreakable source of light is a good thing to have as well.

5. No, there isn't. Drinking from wells can spawn mommo slimes or brown slimes, but that's out of question since we're talking about GC9 which has no wells.

6.

I wasn't aware of the PF melting in acid thing but personally I would not harden the cloak to dragon hide as that will hurt your agility

For cloaks PF is definitely better, but for parts that don't need as much flexibility, DH is preferrable.

so gloves should stay PF as well? PF def melts in acid, as my PF boots of agility +5 can attest :^(

I saw a broken Mjolak on GC6 I really wanted to fix and enchant, but at this point its too late. it is my favorite weapon though. I love pounding enemies with a heavily enchanted MJolak.

I have 30 int so I think i could harden saal from Mithril to octiron - is it worth it? I know I will lose some of the accostimization bonuses, but will the increase in damage offset it?

The actual damage bonus would be minimal. Damage is a function of weight as well as the hardness of the item's material, with various multipliers to both depending on the specific (if I'm recalling my item.dat correctly). Because Octiron weighs considerably less than Mithril, the main benefit of such a hardening would be faster and more accurate attacks. So the short of it is yes, I think that would be worth it.

Though, you'll need a little more than 30 int IIRC...

I think gloves and boots in DH is fine, just not the cloak.

Octiron does less damage than mithril. If you want damage, don't harden it. If you want better accuracy and blocking, go ahead.

Keep in mind higher accuracy also means more head and limb blows. Minimal benefit against animals (including Elpuri!), but great against people. Rolling torsos are a lot less threatening than knights and wizards.

Hmm...

Can wizards cast spells without limbs?

Very late in the game those limb blows can actually be a detriment, since every strike you do to your opponent's limbs is one less blow that could kill them. If you're capable of one-shotting them with a hit to the torso, why would you waste time chopping off limbs one by one? I've died before due to not being able to kill whatever's blocking the way fast enough and getting caught by Danny/Urky.

Just killed xinroch on GC8. Yay me. There is a valpurium golem running around on the level - I am assuming that fighting it is probably a bad idea.
