About Weapons.

When I saw IVAN wiki it said daggers are good when thrown and sickles have more chances of critical hits. But what about other weapons?
Is there something difference between maces and swords?

Maces are good against undead and skeletons, since they don't have insta-kill critical hit areas.

Swords are good against anything that dies if it looses it's head, or other various body parts.

This is just my personal opinion, but I would say the best weapon class is polearms. This includes both halberds and spears. These two weapons do the most damage (lower hit points the most) but they are also heavy and require much arm strength.

The second best would be whips. They won't take away as many hit points, but they are much more accurate, which increases the chances of taking off the enemy's limbs or head. They are also light so they don't require much strength and allow you to train your dexterity

If I'm correct, unarmed combat has increased chance to knock opponent unconsious.
Kicking can send your opponent one (more?) tile backwards, which can be useful for keeping distance. If you kick someone against an wall, they take extra damage. Sometimes if lucky, they might hit their head on the wall and sever it off.

Now, as to your question:

Overall, daggers are the lightest, weakest, and most accurate. They spawn often, with (I believe) a higher than average chance of being a good material or having enchantments. Makes them very good for throwing as they're easy to hoard.

I don't know much about sickles, but they're slightly stronger and slightly less accurate than daggers.

Short swords combine good accuracy with decent damage. They're good for dealing damage while not taking much yourself, as they block quite well.

Long swords are much like short swords, except that they focus more on damage. The same pattern goes for the other sword types until you get to scimitars, which have high damage but low accuracy.

Spears, scythes and halberds are roughly, performance-wise, the polearm equivalent of short/long swords, bastard/two-handed swords and scimitars.

Blunt weapons are different. I don't know much about hammers, but staves handle much like spears, while maces are like a cross between long swords and bastard swords. Unlike much of their actual history, maces in IVAN can be devastating once you get powerful enough, as they don't take much to dual-wield, have good damage and half-decent accuracy, not to mention that they have 2 artifacts.

Whips are interesting. They tend to be weak and extremely accurate, good for taking off limbs. However, one can become very powerful with them. Not only do they not break, meaning you never have to worry about repairing, with enough INT and scrolls they have enormous potential.

Kicking, as Apple said above, have a chance to knock opponents back a square, not to mention the extra damage if you knock them back into a wall, but it's only really useful against weaker enemies such as zombies.

Axes aren't worth your time unless you're playing IVANT or LIVAN.

One problematic thing to mention about weapons is that most of the ones you come across early are made of rustable materials, so think repairs unless you hoard intelligence high enough to harden them. This is particularly annoying about daggers (hence whips are overally better, IMHO).

Also, throwing in Ivan is a bit pointless... aside from the grenades in CVS, there are barely any really useful thrown weapons, unless you like collecting and stacking junk daggers.

Depends on your luck. I've had a few games with multiple high plus daggers, and such things aren't to be taken lightly. There's also the issue of floating eyes and kamikaze dwarves, who are somewhat.. shall we say, 'difficult' to melee (and floating eyes are kind of too weak to bother wasting a wand shot on).

I kill dwarves all the time by throwing highly enchanted whips that mistresses drop 9or whatever else is on hand. Whips that are unbelievably accurate rarely miss.

What if you haven't met a mistress yet? As for weapons on hand I rarely stock more than daggers due to weight issues (though I *guess* I could try running for a weapon I saw on the ground earlier on the level; haven't ever done that though).

Yeah, whips are great for throwing. I try to get invisibility as soon as possible and just avoid dwarves until I can find something good to throw at them.

Vomiting abuses AStr and LStr. haven't you ever gotten the message " Youreleft/right arm/leg feels weaker" after puking? Thats why after I pray to mellis for school food and then eat it to boost End I immediately pray to Seges to cure the poisoning.

Yeah, sometimes it does it before you even get a chance to pray. I don't vomit unless I absolutely have to (parasites)

Seriously speaking - no. :/ Usually my only stat-decreasing trouble included leprosy.

Edit: Haha, indeed. Just saw it today after a vomiting spree after eating the holy banana
