I am not sure if nobody really donated to IVAN, or does this line exist for some other reason. link

You can mod me if you want. I really doubt I'll do anything with it besides use it as an excuse to boss people around. But I really do enjoy bossing people, it's fun. If you don't I'll just have to boss people around without actually being able to do anything about them.

By the way capristo, what exactly is the purpose of having general discussions and off-topic? They're more or less the same thing.

I dunno, that's how they were on Jconserv. I'll get rid of off topic and move all the threads into general

On Jconserv I had a forum dedicated to spammy topics.

Yes, Spam was dedicated to threads with less of a purpose, so they wouldn't clutter up the general discussion forum.

With 23 users, you could enforce a stricter policy before people start to get bad habits

I know i hate forums with spammy topics : in general, it indicates a poor community and i tend to avoid this kind of forum.

if you wanna spam, IRC channels are better suited for that : you won't bother too many people.

Dude, how does spam make a poor community? That's like saying peanut butter makes Reese's bad...the IVAN community is pretty much half-spam, half-IVAN chat. Spam is part of why this place feels so friendly. To get rid of the spam would be like taking away the fun of this place. If I wanted to come to a forum strictly for talk about a particular subject, I would go to the flippin government discussion forums or something. I hardly even play IVAN anymore, but I like hanging out with everyone around here, so why the heck would it be good to get rid of the spam? If you're so into this "Cold, strict" policy, why not make your own IVAN forums, strictly for talk only about IVAN? I don't mean to be mean or anything, but, damn, dude, chill with the strictness. It's just a game, it's not like we're discussing the end of the world here. Although we could do that, too, because we have spam forums. Oh, and if spam bothers you, DON'T READ IT.

Again, excuse me if I stepped out of line a bit by going off on this guy.

Right on, Battleguy!

Spamorama.

Alright, I'm done spamming. I don't want to seem like a pure spammer, ya know? But, really dude, spam keeps this place together. I've been around long enough to know that spam is a major part of daily life at the Cathedral. I was around at the old Cathedral, and I read much of what was in the first forums. I've known all the regulars long enough to consider them really good friends, and I know that spam is a major piece of this pie we call life. Dude, read like half of the topics in this place. At least once in most topics, Atomic makes some reference to a male sex organ or something that comes out of one, and no one gets mad, 'cause we're all friends here. Loosen up a bit, lose the suit and tie, dude, live a little. And, for the record, it's not like 23 is such a HUGE number...1/3 of the members don't post, the second third post rarely, and the last third are the regulars here, like Atomic, Somagu, Battleguy, U_E, Herself, chaostrom, me, Z, capristo, and a few others, if I forgot anyone.

Alright. I'm going to step in here.

First off, I'm going to say I partially agree with Ksempac's position. Not 100%, but enough.

Second, FMW, I don't think you're quite clear on what is considered "spam". Let me make a distinction here:

FictionalPersonODoom wrote
You will never guess what I just found! www.url.com/url/url.html Freaking hilarious. You guys should check it out.

I would not consider the above post to be spam. It can (though it probably won't) produce some interesting conversation. (More likely it'll just produce some laughs and cheap jokes, and maybe some misunderstanding, knowing this community) On the other hand:

Quote
Hurr. Check it guys! I gots a penis in my pants!
I R TARDED

That is spam. I don't think anyone can question that.

I think I've made myself as clear as I can. My point is, FMW, quit telling others to chill out and chill out yourself. Spam really isn't a big deal, but I don't mind keeping some separation between more and less retarded topics.

I dunno though. I don't see many forums with dedicated "this is stupid" forums, though I've seen a few with a "trash" section where topics that are or become ridiculously fucktarded get moved.

Besides, you guys. Satan loves Coco Pebbles. And anyone who doesn't, well, they're on Satan's bad side. Satan is a powerful ... uhm, Satan. I don't think you want to be on his bad side. Of course... don't be his friend either... unless you really want to take an extended vacation in Hell.

Yeah the spam forum is where all bad threads go to die.
I think Ksempac was saying 23 is a small number of members, and that we should clean up before more people come. I also kind of agree but I know lots of people in here like spamming, so as long as they keep it in the Spam forum it should be ok. Maybe I should make the spam forum hidden from guests?

I wouldn't worry about it; people keep the spammy stuff in the right place for the most part. Hiding it from guests to make a good impression is not the IVAN way.

Although Atomic kind of said it already, get off your high horse man. While enforcing strict policies isn't something we do in this forum, we kind of live to a code of reasonable conduct. If people actually started turning this place into Gamefaqs, I would leave in a heartbeat.

Oh, and another thing that bothered me: don't put quotation marks around something that the person didn't say. It makes you look really stupid to people who are paying attention.
Wait, let me get this straight... you hit the button? OH SHI-

You should change the description of the spam forum to "Where bad threads go to die..."

Is there RSS in phpBB? Even with the 'new posts' feature , it would be useful to have the computer visit the forum for me to check for new messages.
