"Possible dup char bug" crash

I get the following error message "Program aborted! AlreadyErased:ItemID 28175, possible dup char bug" whenever I try to leave Attnam or exit the game by saving. I could enter and exit Attnam freely until now, needless to say I'm stuck. I suspect it might have to do with me taking a ruby two handed scimitar +4 from an Archangel that one of the chaotic gods sent me when I prayed to them. I found it odd, because the Archangel had two ruby halberds equipped plus this scimitar, and as always I took the book they carry to train int/wis and thought such a fine scimitar couldn't hurt to have as a spare weapon. Other than that, I hadn't done anything remarkable in Attnam except selling a few items and whatnot.

I'm running the game on WIndows 8.1 if that makes any difference.

Please help! I can't continue my playthrough with this char which was looking quite promissing and I was having a great time.

Edit: I tried leaving the ruby scimitar on the floor and also ploymorphying it to something else with no success, I'm getting the exact same error everytime. I'm uploading the save file in case anyone wants to take a look at it.
Edit 2: I'm running the latest version, which is v0.54.

aren't angel items mirrored? wait until they disappear before leaving the level.

I'm going to try that, thanks for the suggestion. Although, I feel I've had this scimitar with me more than what a mirrored item usually lasts. Also, I left the archangel on one of the levels of the underground tunnel.

Angels' mirrored items do last a lot longer than items that are mirrored via wand.

would zapping it with a wand of haste speed its disappearance, the way it does with food spoilage?

BTW, that probably has nothing to do with the angel's items, and waiting them out will not help, unfortunately. It is an obscure bug that sometimes happens when the player character tries to leave an area, but rather than being removed from the area and added to the new area, the player is duplicated in memory and present in both areas at once. And the game will then crash.

People tried to hunt it down, but no luck so far, I think.

Looks like you only have 2 endings left as an option Azahael...Death or High Priest Victory! Time to get creative!

This is really bad news. It happens every single time, though. I don't know anything about programming but I guess if it's so easy to reproduce, the cause might not be that hard to find?

Regarding the High Priest Ending, I cannot achieve it because I haven't killed Elpuri. My only choice would be going for the Avatar of Chaos victory, but I'm far from being able to achieve that considering my character's current stats and equipment.

This is so sad, I was loving this playthrough

Hi Azhael, have you got the save file handy? (might need to zip and then rename the extension to .doc to upload... is that still a thing?)

Yes, here it is. In fact, I just realized it didn't got uploaded last time (I thought it was), probably because of being .zip.

Note that I was playing v0.54 when this happened.

I have this problem too in 0.56. It is absolutely heartbreaking because I know this character could be a big winner, he's already met the requirements for one victory type.

In my case I noticed a few seemingly minor bugs after a random crash and autosave restore. My game crashed while running around the upper leveIs of GC I think, and on autosave restore put me on the same level a handful of turns back in time like normal. On returning to deeper levels though I noticed some progress was lost. Ivan's level was reverted to being almost completely unexplored when it should have been mostly cleared. The character had already taken some of Ivan's equipment and placed it in Attnam, but Ivan again had all his stuff on returning. Since the error was accidental and I wasn't *intentionally* using an exploit, I figured I might as well take the duplicate Gorovits family treasures and bring those back to Attnam as well. I really only wanted his boots of agility anyway.

I returned to Attnam but when try to leave the map, the game crashes and I get this error: "AlreadyErased:ItemID 546698, possible dup char bug" Some items can be dismantled in crafting or destroyed by other means and this changes the ItemID in the error message, but I can't seem to find all items that need to be fixed. I've tried destroying all the items Ivan carries but there are other duplicated items I've picked up and I don't know what they are. If I knew how to identify items by their ItemID then destroying them individually and checking the crash message to find the next one would seemingly fix my save files.

My suspicion is that autosave is only saving the current level and not other levels where changes might have taken place since the last save. This allows individual items to be on two levels at the same time, and when the player brings the two duplicate items onto the same level they can never leave that level again. This may not be right but it's my best guess.

Edit: attached save files

Edit 2: Crappy brutal workaround for posterity
Well I think my save is fixed, I got out of Attnam. I dismantled all the items I knew to be duplicates, then went through all the items I owned dismantling them by type. First all the helmets, then try to leave town, check error message for change. Then all the weapons, try to leave town, check error. I did this to everything on me, and when that didn't work I started on the chests I had on the ground. The last offending item turned out to be some crappy chest I put a few wands in. Thank Atavus! I hope the save keeps working.

Killed Elpuri, went back to Attnam only to find an actual duplicate character. Save is fucked again and I can't load at all.
