Two-three zaps with a wand of fireballs is enough to kill him. Helps to read a scroll of detect material for enner beast flesh to find him quickly, too.

Alternatively for a riskier approach, haste yourself and detect + teleport next to him right after a scream.

If you have a ring of polycontrol, you can polymorph into a ghost. You will be immune to enner's scream and may either safely bypass him, or lure him anywhere you wish - he will follow you unable to do any damage. Preparing some traps and then luring him in them may work quite well.

Even without polycontrol, if you're on Scabies' good side she'll often turn you into some sort of ghost, and if you get a more powerful type you could even kill the enner while polymorphed, since he has no melee attacks. The only risk is if time runs out and you turn back into a human right next to the enner...

Ha, Still learning. I never knew ghosts were Enner-immune. I usually just walk up to enter and swat him, drink a can of healing potion/troll blood and swat him again. Repeat until dead. Need HP above 80 to survive scream. haste you, slow enner helps but not necessary. Also planting traps is highly effective. can your potions and enner is no big deal.

Reminds me the self-polymorph into a ghost thing needs to be tested. What does the player character look like as a new ghost?

Is there a certain delay between screams? Between X and Y turns?

I've always just detected his flesh and then used fireballs. Except 1 of my victories where I meleed him because he was right next to the staircase. Wands of striking don't seem as effective against him

Whether the enner beast screams on a given turn seems to be quite complex. Normally it has a one in 3 chance to scream, which approximately makes a Poisson process.
If it is panicked it won't scream, unless it's cornered, in which case it will scream every time it takes a turn. I haven't investigated IVAN's energy system, but it seems that the enner beast can take multiple actions (moving and screaming) on the same turn. Moving takes the standard 1000AP, but screaming takes 1,000,000 divided by its bite skill bonus. So if the bite bonus is not more than ~10,000, there should be a significant delay after each scream, making it not quite a Poisson process.
In summary, there's a minimum number of ticks between screams (which is more than the time it takes to move), and no maximum (but smaller delays are more likely than longer delays).

I love this post! Poisson processes are like the time between incidences of radioactive decay. I wonder if the devs did this on purpose?

It's a pretty natural way to program enemies with special abilities who aren't constrained by magic points. To use it every turn would be excessive. To use it on a regular schedule would require the monster to store extra information. Vanilla Angband monsters use this system too.
Of course a real Poisson process would have no lower bound on the minimum time between screams, nor would it have the screams restricted to the discrete moments when the enner beast gets a turn. A Poisson(-like) process would emerge as the continuous limit as the time between turns and the probability of screaming tends to 0.
