I had not seen this mentioned elsewhere, so a small tip for not getting blown to pieces from your own wands when you are looked upon favorably by the god of fire, machines and weaponry:

If you look at the materials each wand is made of, there are three wands that are made of metals that Loricatus can harden. Two "attack" wands that can make your life short(er) when they get blown up, and one utility wand that you probably want to have handy at all times.

So harden up those / of haste, / of striking and those / of fireballs. It might (temporarily) save your life!

(long time nethack player, slightly less longtime crawl player, wands breaking is always a tragedy)

Of course, it's easier to just carry a small chest for wands you don't immediately need. Good point though, if you're going neutral and have nothing more useful to harden, certain wands are an option as well.

I only carry lots of fragile things when I have a small chest or a strong box. Those are explosion proof.

I once stepped on a mine and I had a wand of fireballs, a bottle of sulfuric acid, 4 bottles of healing liquid, a bottle of vodka and bottle of poison among other fragile things. It was the most horrifying death I had. I exploded 3 times and got covered in all liquids, bleeding and losing limbs, healing, melting, vomiting and getting poisoned before dying.

Classic IVAN.

as horrible as they are, I have had some deaths like that and they are certainly the most entertaining.

Although ending up playing as TORSO BOY! after not noticing a leprosy message amidst battle spam with zombies is also !fun!.

Explosion resistant. Strong boxes are indeed aptly named and better about preventing this, but you can still have stuff break inside a box if it's hit hard enough. The easiest example of this is potions which can shatter and leak all over you if you step on a landmine or something.
Particularly problematic if you were carrying around, say, sulphuric acid.
System would indicate in graphic if person is mounted on horse or not.
Same system also show if person mounted on boar, elephant, polar bear etc.
Or if person mounted on ass.
Ivan find mounting on ass funny.

Really? The only instance I see stuff breaking inside containers is when they are locked and the lock breaks open instead of opening it with a key. That's good to know.

Yes. Especially some of the bad guys can break stuff in your chests. I forget if Enner is able to do that, but Izzy most definitely, and possibly Elpuri too

Also, welcome sasbot! I never thought about hardening wands to make them more explosion resistant!

Hi!

I ran out of things to harden, and I started looking into what all the other random stuff I had lying around was made of. It would just feel like such a waste to pray and not get something from those stingy deities... I mean I am out there slaughtering in their name and all that. And since I hadn't seen any mention of it on the forums or wiki I thought I would share.

I can confirm that Elpuri does have a box-piercing attack.

I think it might have been his tail.
