Is it possible?

In IVAN 0.430, it was possible to use the "dip" command on corpses in your inventory. It would net flesh instead of the blood, though. So you can coat your weapons with spider flesh and poison enemies or fill bottles and cans with flesh. Sadly, it was removed despite the potential.

Scripting is really easy in this game (I'm already adding/editing lots of stuff already) but I know commands are part of the source code, which I have no idea how to even start editing.

An skilled coder could split that old feature into two.

1- Using the dip command on corpses with weapons and bottles/containers to coat weapons or fill containers with their blood.

2- Having a harvest command tied to a CAN_HARVEST flag to be used in items.dat to get flesh from corpses. Could be used to get lumps of flesh with weapons or fill containers with the flesh.

If I wanted to be shitty about it, it probably wouldn't be too hard to make each corpse a container, and have you (o)pen the corpse to harvest meat. In the same way, you could dip(!) into a corpse container which was filled with the relevant blood.

I'll have a look at the source later and see what it is exactly that lets you dip things. If it's just a tag (CAN_DIP) then it might be easy enough to just apply to anything and experiment.
System would indicate in graphic if person is mounted on horse or not.
Same system also show if person mounted on boar, elephant, polar bear etc.
Or if person mounted on ass.
Ivan find mounting on ass funny.

Hmm... that could work too. I took a look at the IVAN 0.430's command.cpp from the source code with notepad and it's mostly a mess. I could find dip related code, though.

I think there were calls from the community to allow the PC to harvest flesh from corpses using pickaxes (or hammers o.0)

I did not know about this functionality in 0.43. You must be a long time invisible stalker Chiko? Welcome

Thanks for the welcome. :3

I'm actually pretty new to IVAN. Found out about it like 3 days ago and I must say I loved it almost instantly. Eventually, I got the urge to meddle into the files and see if I could mod stuff. It's like this game was being developed with modding friendliness in mind.

I also noticed the amount of ideas around and a number of variants available. I've been kinda making my own.

Also, about that feature. I wonder why it got removed... maybe it proved too overpowered or just wasn't working as it should. It seems weapons coated in flesh will start to rot instead coz there were flies all over one of them. I'll try to survive long enough to confirm it. It might be the reason this feature got removed.

Oh, and I must say, it's kinda weird to coat weapons in flesh or fill bottles with it too.

Restricting the dipping into corpses to empty cans could work initially as a dirty fix, getting blood instead of flesh for bottles or weapons etc can be worked out later. Maybe reuse the "there's a fountain here, want to dip your bottle there?"-dialog for corpses on the ground? ("There's a corpse of of a male tourist lying on the ground here, do you wish to jam your runed leather whip +2 into it?" -> a runed leather whip +2 covered with human blood)

A feature like that is like the closest thing we could have to butchering corpses AND canning food at the same time! @,..,@

I do hope someone with the knowledge could manage to do dis, eventually.

Thanks! :3

It's not the first time I see features with potential for modding being removed in games. They are sometimes hidden in the files or like in this case, in older releases. It's one of the first things I do when I get interesting in the innards of a game.
