So, it seems like the gods are the most powerful and most reliable resource a character can have. I'm just not clear on a few things:

1. Does a characters wisdom affect his chance of praying successfully to an angry god?

2. Does a God's relation increase the quality of their rewards? (IE: Will a happier seges give you more food, or a happier Legifer give more damaging explosions?) If so, does anyone have the formulas?

3. Which gods are best? I've read that picking five adjacent gods is workable, and so far I like the Neutrals, plus Seges and Sophos, because Food and Emergency Teleport seems most useful.

4. Will any of the evil gods replace limbs?

1. IIRC, yes it does!

2. It works in a way that, for example, having better relations with Cleptia gives a better chance of disarming with the Whip Of Thievery, same goes with Scabies & polymorphing with the Chameleon Whip, and Dulcis and taming with the lyre of charm. I think that better relations give a slightly better chance of being granted an item from the deity. Seges' and Silva's feeding definately won't be more satiating than they already are.

3. It really is a matter of preference. Many people like Atavus+Valpurus, I like the Seges-Dulcis-Silva-Loricatus-Mellis-Nefas spectrum, others rely on the evil gods + mellis, etc. Learn all the effects and decide for yourself...

4. Scabies will replace with natural, albeit inferior limbs (check out the message).
Well I assume that a bolt has a given, numeric, amouunt of perwer. (assi in enegri)... unless it's LAERSER SKISKLS POEWN PEWN!

Any god will replace a missing limb with one of their favored materials; so, Loricatus for example will replace your missing arm with one made of iron (or steel etc).

If a god is angry he's angry, and praying will only hurt you. Higher wisdom scores reduce the amount of favor lost and increase the amount of favor gained from any given action.

2) Yes. I remember a significant difference between the explosions given by a slightly-happy Legifer being somewhat small in comparison to the ones produced if he names you his champion. Also what Al said above.

3) Once you learn how to use them effectively, any god can be greatly helpful. My personal preference is Loricatus and/or Atavus. Loricatus because once he gets to like you he can harden your weapons for free, and shits scrolls of enchant weapon/armor all over you. Atavus mainly because chests are easy to find and offer to him, allowing you to get him happy and receive a arcanite armor (chainmail was it?) early in the game.

4) Any god may replace a limb with one of their materials, as Izzy said above. You might want to pick the right god for this though - I once had a lost limb replaced with one made of mushroom flesh, which was crap. Think I may have prayed to Cleptia or Scabies.
System would indicate in graphic if person is mounted on horse or not.
Same system also show if person mounted on boar, elephant, polar bear etc.
Or if person mounted on ass.
Ivan find mounting on ass funny.

Interesting. I guess I've just never seen Cleptia replace a limb, ever.

Does Sophos do anything other than teleport you? I've gotten multiple effects from every god but him.

Sophos can also give a scroll of teleportation IIRC, though I might just be confusing him with Infuscor. Other than that, not really? It's been a while since I last worshiped him.

Also, it appears that Loricatus only hardens metals; specifically, only his aligned metals. I was just testing in wizard mode, and I'm on the 18th prayer, and he has yet to touch my arcanite dagger. Should I put a mention of this on the Wiki? I've wasted a lot of prayers trying to get him to harden leather

I believe it is already mentioned in the wiki? Yeah, most gods will only handle aligned materials. Loricatus will only harden items made from the ferrous chain -- copper, bronze, iron, steel, meteoric steel. (And adamant, if that hardened to anything else.) Tin too, maybe; I forget.

Yeah, the Wiki's exact words are "Your weapon's material may not be able to harden. In this case, you may want to temporarily "wield" your gauntlets or some other item that needs hardening."

I've also noticed that they *will* swap existing artificial limbs out for better ones even if they're not aligned; I've had Silvia, Sophos, and Loricatus change my arm from missing to parchment to citrine to adamant when all I really wanted was a teleport, an earthquake, and a sharper sword.

Going to go ahead and edit it now.

EDIT: Done! I think I did a rather good job.

Also, here's the formula I found

"the probability of hardening is 1/x where x = max(intelligence requirement - relation/50, 1). Intelligence requirement for meteoric steel is 15, so you should always succeed if you are a champion (relation = 1000). Intelligence requirement for adamantium is 40, so you have 5% chance."

and the source http://ivan.13.forumer.com/a/quotyou-feel-a-slight-tingling-...

EDIT EDIT: Wiki frenzy! I will post ALL the information!!!

That enchantment based on relation thing can't be right; I've had Mellis give me a -4 helmet of attraction before, and I'm *sure* I wasn't deep into the negatives with him.

I didn't realize that BAD prayers decreased wisdom. Going to go ahead and test that. Huh. Sure enough.
