I suppose flavor would be the biggest reason to use his items over the others; certainly in .50 Mortifer's Ne'erc Se-ulb is far more useful than the valpurium sword or shield that Valpurus hands out.

Oh, and no matter how great you are in shredding adamnite golems into pieces, a bite in the head from a giant dark frog will stop you dead in your tracks :/

Valpurus? No, not really. The valpurium 2h sword is nice if you can enchant it a whole lot, and the shield is the same (if you're into that sort of thing), but the same is true for most weapons.

Mortifer, on the other hand, gives you Neerc se'Ulb, which is quite amazing.

I've read that Loricatus will harden you armor if you wield it.
But I always get the "tingling in you hands"-message, even though I have high enough intelligence.
Has that trick been fixed?

And how strong should I be, before I can attempt to steal the shirt of the golden eagle?

And does the giant spider in the crystal cave serve any greater purpose?

Yes, Loricatus will harden armor. However, the better the material gets, the lesser the chance he will upgrade it further. Being stubborn may prove a virtue here

Also, I think it's correct only for the iron family:

(Also, The Famous "Likeliness To Enchant" Chart:
copper > bronze > iron > steel > meteoric steel > adamantium)

Nothing to fix here, that seems to be the way it was meant to be.

Hmmm... I think 17-20+ Endurance (right , guys?), being well-trained in Your weapon of choice, and teleport control. A high dexterity (30+) is VERY helpful...

But I'd rather say that proper equipment is as much important as strength/training: besides at least dragon hide/angel hair/meteoric steel armor, be sure to have plenty means of healing and LOTS of teleport.

Crystal cave, as in UT4? No, not really. just makes web for assistance/annoyance.

Thank you for the tip with Loricatus.

Some mistakes I made.
The shirt in the dwarven vault was the Golden Shirt of the Jaguar.
I managed to kill of all the guards without major problems.

And the Spider I mentioned was in UT5, 4 tiles big and able to destroy walls.

How do you manage you equipment?
Do you have several sets of armor?
Like a light, non restricting set for exploring and a heavy, restricting set for boss battles?
Or just a highly enchanted one for all situations?

I'm asking because I'm suffering of massive overload, since I can't decide between lots of awesome pieces of equipment.

Body Armor:
Spider Silk Armor (1200g, AV 18 )
Octrion Plate Mail (3600g, AV 28 )
Shirt of the Golden Jaguar (300g, AV 14, Haste, Polycontrol, Telecontrol)

Weapons:
Mithril Short Sword +4
Ancient Katana Murmasa +4
Mace named Smite (Electricity)
Axe named Vormav (Speed)

Been using the first two and have a skill level of 14 in large swords and level 12 in short swords.
No Experience with the other 2.
Best solution probably is to wish for Shaal'Thul (I have a scroll of wishing left) and leave the others behind.

Gauntlets:
2 Ilithium Gauntlets of Strenght +4
2 Ommel Hair Gauntlets of Dexterity +5

Boots:
Leather Boots of Agility +5 (yeah I know, I have to harden those)
Adamnite boots of Strenght +4

So which equipment should I get rid of?
Same problem with wands.
I have way to much of them.

Oh and I finally managed to slay Enner.

Congratulations on the Enner, Mindmaker

I suppose the boots of strength and gauntlets of strength are a fit choice (also, the weight of leather and ommel hair is neglible compared to the metal ones, so You can keep it anyway . Or at least stack in a chest in town.)

I usually use heavy body armor, heavily enchanted boots of agility (sometimes I change them into metal ones), gauntlets of strength and a dragon hide cloak. This is basically a tank-setup. Many other players prefer chainmail and "soft" limb covers, and combined with a high agility this gives significant results.

Oh, I also tend to stack awesome equipment, but not wear different pieces of armour (except, e.g., belts). But nonetheless I'd rather keep the spider silk armor in case of gaining a cool pet.

How to manage it? Hmm. Most liquids go to the can, ommelines have a seperate chest, as do wands.I think keeping some of the bulky stuff in a chest may be an investment worth the trouble, because in case of a tough fight/runaway You can just drop it. Also, it's ok to give, for example, a chest with pretty armor to a pet mistress/slave/guard. On the other hand, there's the burden of the chests themselves. But a regular, "medium" chest will probably house all of Your wand/potion/scroll/artifact (after all, in case of death we don't want dark knights with a Muramasa haunting the level!) needs.

I can't really help with the weapons, because I didn't play LIVAN. Same for the spider. Sorry.

As I recall in the last official beta the spider was physically impossible to kill due to intrinsic health regen.

If I were you I would use the gauntlets of dexterity and boots of agility. Dex and Agi seem to me to be much harder to train than strength.

Forget the mace and the axe, you definitely don't want to be switching to an untrained weapon this late in the game. You could probably sell them for a lot if you haven't already drained the stores' money supplies.

The Golden Jaguar's poly and telecontrol and haste seem handy but I think in the long run the higher AV will be more useful... so I would wear the octiron.

I usually only keep a few wands of teleportation and maybe 1 or 2 offensive wands such as striking or fireballs. The rest of the wands I dump into a large chest on another level and keep them there. Out of the ones I am carrying, I keep all of them in a small chest except 1 wand of teleportation. That way you can teleport yourself or an enemy in case of dire need - you don't have to waste a turn removing it from the chest, during which a very powerful enemy could already kill you. The rest you should keep in the chest though, to make sure they don't explode

Hmm, I've killed the spider (Behemoth?), and all i got was a "very hungry" status and an aching index finger.
And just keep the jaguar shirt since you probably will get some SoCM and high intellect.

Also I've heard from an NPC that you should save your artifacts... but I don't think it will matter in the end, maybe you get a higher score or something.

Another game that is doing quite well:


With the right equipment you can oven onehit enner (well its more a one turn kill, since I dualwield, nevertheless it's awesome).
Lets see how far I can get this time.

Well I healed my limbs once (I found a Oily Banana and didn't want to waste it) on halfway to Enner.

I'm not sure but can the scream damage be reduced somehow?
I had really thick armor and an amulet of elemental protection by that time.

Mindmaker, did you teleport close to the enner, or just walk up to him?

I've meleed the enner a couple of times, but usually only if I appear on the level and he's already right nearby.

With 65 uncategorized weapon skill, some dexterity, gloves, telecontrol and a wand of teleportation, it's possible to slap enner to death. Sure, it's far from optimal and horribly dangerous especially considering the massive danger level boost hitting level 65 skill gives, but slapping him hard enough to send his head flying is truly worth it.


The scream damage is negated by armor, that I'm sure of. Since I don't play LIVAN, no clue about whether amulet of elemental protection does anything to it. The usual resistance gear probably does nothing against it. Aside from staying at a distance or wearing good armor there aren't any other measures against his scream I'm aware of.

I walked up to him, since he didn't seem to be that far away.

As for my armor, I was wearing a mix of enchanted Adamnite/Diamond/Octrion gear, which I got from the dwarven vault (I normally use lighter gear and stash this one away).

By the way, what's new in IVAN CVS?

Back when I first played LIVAN there were balance issues, I don't know if lampshade fixed them or not, but don't let me stop you from playing it, it's a quality mod and as mods go it's a matter of personal preference. Here is a list of CVS objects introduced. There are other things like the cellar and maybe a few more items but that sums up most of the ones you're going to see.

First Enner kill in classic IVAN:


I just had to waste 8 cans of healing liquid/troll blood and 3 wands of lightning.
If i just haden't used up all of the SoFM for secret room search i would probably just have used up 3-4 cans...

Yeah, healing liquid isn't very useful because it takes time to drink. So by the time you finish, he's already hurt you again, and probably destroyed some of your equipment as well.
