Tweraif is a transliterated name used by the Attnamese colonists, mangled from the original ''T'wer aifa'', pronounced [The-fair eye-pha], which could be translated word-for-word as "earth-crystal island", alluding to the [[Crystal Cave|great cave system]] hidden beneath this island. Similarly, calling the people of ''T'wer aifa'' "Tweraifians" is plainly ignorant. They call themselves simply ''aifar'' (singular ''aifr''), meaning "islanders".
''T'wer'' is used in ''aifari'' (the language of the ''aifar'') for various rock crystals, while a similar ''Saf'wer'' ("sky-crystal") is used for glass. ''T'ra'' ("[[Terra|earth-mother]]") is then aifarian name for [[Silva]].
The island itself is not in fact natural, but rather a long-forgotten growth of an ancient magical crystal planted on the sea bed.
