The probability of a successful hardening depends on your relationship with Loricatus; even at maximum relationship there is only a 5% chance of hardening meteoric steel into adamantine. Any non-aligned materials such as leather, glass, or octiron will ''always''s material may not be able to hardenreceive a tingling message. In this case, you may want to temporarily "wield" your gauntlets or some other item that needs hardening, since Loricatus can harden any type of item, as long as it is held in your hands and made of the correct materials.
