Crashes consistently, I'm doing so well in this game too . I even (accidentally) managed to kill the shopkeeper .
I searched around on the internet, but information on this game is so difficult to come across!
Thanks!

Hello, and welcome to the forums!

What do you do when the game crashes? Try doing an extra round at GC7 before you go down, for example... You've ever been to GC8 before in this game?

IIRC, every time I've played IVANX, I've only gotten to that same point before getting a crash. No idea as for what causes it either, other than there's something funky about the transition between the levels or GC8 itself.

The reason why it's hard to come across any information on the game is that there simply isn't any available. The only dedicated sources there are is this place with it's predecessors and some Japanese wikia for .50. It's even worse for IVANX, since the Attnamese mostly focus on .50, CVS and LIVAN when they play.

I've never been to GC8 ever, the crash happens every game. I just happen to be doing quite well this time.

Aw, that's disappointing. Which version of IVAN has the most fun things or works the most? I downloaded this game ages ago and I haven't really kept up with its development.

Cheers for your replies! Is there any fiddly text editing I can do to save my game and perhaps move it over to another version?

If you're going for stability and least bugs, grab either the original .50, CVS or IVAN3D. They crash very rarely, but also have the least content. For the most things to play with, choose LIVAN. It has a huge amount of added stuff, more so than IVANX AFAIK.

As for editing the save to make it compatible with other versions, you're out of luck. Sorry, that character is lost.

Well I downloaded LIVAN and so far the only difference I've noticed is more graphics which means I don't have to scan the message box so often to see if I've ran over something . Is there anything I should be looking out for that is new?

Thanks to all for the information! It's a shame I won't run into any of my previous ghosts now though, I guess it's time to get slaughtered a few times.

Well, there's a plethora of new items added, plus the dwarven city in the gloomy caves, another town on the world map named Mondedr if my spelling is correct, a few more levels added to the gloomy cave, and an incredibly annoying farmer with a +10 copper axe and insane axe skill. Oh, and more boss monsters, including a gigantic carnivorous mushroom iirc.
System would indicate in graphic if person is mounted on horse or not.
Same system also show if person mounted on boar, elephant, polar bear etc.
Or if person mounted on ass.

Not a carnivorous mushroom, a magic mushroom that spawns more magic mushrooms. If you have never encountered the horrors that magic mushies can spawn, this level will cure you of your fatal ignorance. Said 'boss' monster is a pushover, but by the time you reach the boss, the other mushrooms will have caused plenty more mushrooms to spawn in and make the level utter chaos.

Isn't the magical mushroom (but not the boss) an original .50 monster? Or are we talking a worse degree of magical mushrooms here?

It is, but the LIVAN boss version basically is like genetrix in that it spawns in magical mushrooms every so often (on top of what the magical mushrooms might spawn in). Unlike genetrix I'm not sure the spawns have to be around you, which means they can instead freely wander the level and basically guarantee the lethal chaos you can experience in .50 by leaving a magical mushroom alone long enough (but even if they do have to spawn next to you when spawned in, there are I believe 12 or so magical mushrooms spawned next to it, which is plenty for the scenario I'm describing).

Boss itself is really weak; it can't polymorph into more dangerous critters like the 1x1 mushrooms can and AIR doesn't have much power in it. The other mushrooms are what will kill you if you die there.

In this case it doesn't matter how strong the boss is, I got that... Even though I have never have experienced a good old magical mushroom infestation.

Wow, lots of replies!
I'll look forward to this mushroom should I ever get so far. I'm really bad at these sort of games, they're still fun though.
Also, IvanX had the farmer, Mondedr and the Dwarfen Mines. Mondedr crashed frequently though, hopefully this is different in LIVAN.

I've never had the game crash in Mondedr in LIVAN.
Also should my memory serve me well, the mushroom is on level 12 of the gloomy cave, and few people manage to make it that far
My advice for that level is to use haste, and find the mushroom fast. The place is almost maze-like too.
Also you have to go past that damned farmer's level on the way there.
And the Enner Beast.
And probably a mystic dark frog or two.

Well, this explains why my run took a sudden end.

Guess its LIVAN next!
