One more item I would like to take from CLIVAN to vanilla is the werewolf fur cloak.

Some were added!

Amongst others:
* Some wives of Petrus have their own lines.
* The slave you can buy is much more educated and eloquent.
* Haedlac and the priest of Valurus have new lines.
* Sherry can talk!
* Some monsters have new lines, some have new death messages.

I'll hopefully do some more when I have time.

BTW, if you don't want to spoil the surprise, wait for it in the game. Chat with everything.

Also I'd like to take this opportunity to say that refusing to add items to the game because "they're not practical" is dangerous thinking and gets on my nerves, especially for roguelikes. Just because the thing "isn't good" is not a good reason to not have it in the game. Take a look at balsa spears for instance.
It's not about adding things to make it easier/more interesting for the player, it's about what makes the game more interesting, colourful, challenging and fun. None of this munchkin stuff.

I completely, wholeheartly agree! The other way ends up either in a power creep, or in a bland, flavorless game such as DCSS.

Here are the currently existing stone armors - still a bit low for what I was planning for:

Yeah, that's probably too low.

I think that's because the pictures have limestone, one of the weakest stones in game. As far as I understand, these armors should have huge AV and huge weight. Eg. I imagine you could find obsidian armor [30 AV, 30 kg] very early in game, so you can burned yourself and become nearly invulnerable.

How did this project end? It would be cool to have stone armor in the game!

It would be nice if chatting with any humanoid creature, be it peaceful or hostile, during December 24th and 25th had a small chance of resulting in the line "Merry Atavus Day!" instead of the usual message.

I'm wary of adding stuff like this, since LIVAN and CLIVAN were so out of balance. Happily we can add dungeon tags in the code right now, so that the dragon cuirass generates only in the dragon tower for example.

I completely agree that it would be powerful, as dragon hide is a good material and unbreaking armor is... well, good. If dragon tower is coming one day, it would definitely make a nice specific piece of gear.

I have to voice a little opposition to the idea of a flash-bang. We don't need Attnam to become Nethack, with everything and the kitchen sink.

We have grenades, mines and gunpowder (named gunpowder and not black powder, so apparently some guns are also present), thaumic bombs (aka nukes; not in-game, but in game files), pepsi, cossacks and Ivan coming through interdimensional portal from Russia...

But a wand of confusion? That could be neat.

Either that, or a horn of confusion like in CLIVAN.

BTW, should we split this part of the discussion into a new Confusion thread?

It would be awsome if any high-Str attack (be it a punch, kick or weapon strike) could knock you back. Metal golems should probably punch you all over the room, which could also make metal limbs more interesting. Having explosion knock you around would be real fun in the minefield.

We could also differentiate wand of lightning and wand of striking - striking could do less damage, but have huge knock back.

I like the idea of more sources of confusion. If we ever have fully implemented mind worms, their mind blast should also cause confusion.

I was thinking about adding several new items, primarily pieces of equipment, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on them.

helm of telecontrol
* Naturally grants teleport control. I would love to have some other magical helms than only stat-up ones and this one would make a nice substitue of the ring.

helm of telepathy
* Grants ESP.
* Again, a substitute for the amulet. Might be nice if you don't have permanent ESP, as it does not prevent you from wearing AoLS.

amulet of magic breath
* Grants gas immunity.
* I don't think the gas mask needs to be the only way of gaining permanent gas immunity, and amulet is a good slot for this, as it will compete with AoLS and warding.

amulet of speed
* Grants haste. Now of this one I'm not sure, as it seems quite good. Do we want to have a permanent haste on equipment?
* Maybe never generated, only wishable?

dragon cuirass
* This is an armor from CLIVAN which I really like - it is a dragon hide armor that cannot break, but neither can be SoCM'd. (Actually in CLIVAN it can be SoCM'd, but that's a bug as far as I know.)
* I think the no-SoCM balances this nicely. Also should be rare.

belt of giant strength
* Increases both AStr and LStr by enchantment.
* Basically a counterweight to belt of levitation - now there is simply no competition. I would like to have at least one item that can compete in the belt slot.

In a similar vein, there was some discussion a while back about giving rings and amulets random materials. I would like that, because having rings randomly made of iron, wood or bone would each make for interesting situations. What do you think?
