Ah, yes, shops probably got overlooked despite lots of items and materials being added in.

In 0.50 they were good enough since money wasn't really all that important, and if you saw something nice you could save up for that one thing. The better things weren't usually sold anyway, and more often than not your best equipment were things you acquired and improved with scrolls.

Shops are probably due for some balancing.

it would be interesting to use IVAN engine for some postapoc RL, though.

and we now have some kind of ranged weapons — we can throw things! this is more than enough, i believe. especially considering that in k8I you can throw armed mine or bear trap. throwing mines at Jenny is fun!

Going off on that tangent, the idea for a prehistoric setting was once discussed.

even earlier. what i quoted is 0.43. and "fishing is fun" is actually all way back to 0.301 (just checked it).

Thanks for checking, appreciate it.

So if the fishing rod and bucket are added, do you think the fishing rod should work like a misc item or a polearm? Should it be a zappable dud like a banana (a.k.a. casting)? Buckets will probably be like lanterns, unrealistically good at blocking due to being so round?

Wow, yeah, I completely forgot about the fishing dialogue. Having said that, was that the original 0.50? I feel like giving him a rod and bucket was discussed after the picture, so I'm wondering if that line was the inspiration for the picture, or if it was added after the picture.

and i did one very questionable thing in GC: added second exit from Enner level. it is near the river too, but you can get away without killing the beast. somehow i always felt… sympathatetic for the poor thing. he only wanted some fish, and somebody to talk with, it's not his fault that everybody around dies! of course, there are many ways to not kill him, but i felt that i should explicitly hint the player.

Actually, the whole fish thing is an inhouse reference to this picture by one of our older members.

So what you're telling me, is that IVAN zombie code is spat out by eddies in space-time continuum.

There's a reason dedicated sound design is a thing though. A repetitive track is worse than no track at all.

i just got a great idea for a-bomb implementation: it should delete saves, and crash the game. i mean, it destroys the whole world, without any way to survive. so hard that even the game is broken, and need to be repaired by restarting.

This already happens on the rare occasion. Well, used to, I don't know if the newer versions have fixed it. The game used to corrupt itself at random, so you had to download a fresh copy of the game. Then there was the time I lost one of my best characters when the game caused a BSoD and destroyed the save completely. Not even the auto-save was left. Of course, these weren't exactly features and only happened very rarely, but it's basically what you're proposing.

also, sometimes i want to drag IVAN into grimdark/horror territory. like, if you load a save which is several monthes old, you'll find the world empty. the levels (including cities) partially ruined. fountains drained. no monsters will spawn. you are the only one there, with nothing to do, nobody to talk with. and no way to die, because no wands/scrolls will work. everybody's dead. gods themselves are dead. the sun is dead, and it's always dark on the ground. congrats, you won the game by destroying literally everything.

not that i'll ever implement this, it doesn't fit. but sometimes i really want to…

I actually like this idea though??? SPOILER ALERT. Click here to see text.
Like, if you've left a game for over a year maybe. Or the decay is progressive, so that it advances each month or so that you don't load a save or something, so that eventually an old enough save will have nothing left in the game.

Isn't that fantastic though? Unintended body horror zombies? Spread it on the internet and we might get curious people code-diving IVAN just to find the cause.
