How about >:( ?

Way I read the first post made it sound like this was an optional feature you could use if you wanted it/asked nicely (like you, I don't read my regular email very often so I can't say I'd get much use out of this).

Makes sense to me to do it that way too. Both concerns are addressed this way and no more wondering.

Ok, so in other words if we aren't hearing anything nothing is happening? I mean I understand you want to avoid people criticizing the project before it gets off the ground, but I'm concerned because of what I'm not seeing. If you guys are still missing key sorts of people, maybe you should go searching for people who might be interested in the jobs needed on other sites; no offense to those who've shown up but betting on people appearing out of thin air to fill needed places isn't precisely a winning strategy.

As far as the progress I'd like to see, something like bi or trimonthly state of the union addressals would be fine (not expecting something like Toady's daily updates here, but when it's been more or less totally quiet for that long I get antsy and wondering if anything's coming of that announcement or if it's going to dissipate without explanation the same way the last time someone said they were reviving IVAN development did).

One other thing: if you really want this to be a separate project, why not just make a new section for this? That way things like suggestions, bugs, and announcements have a home in advance (and plausibly relevant topics that already exist can be cribbed into the relevant new spots). Also what could perhaps be done is tagging the hidden board on there instead of in IVAN coding. IVAN variants could stand to get their own section as part of the restructuring, presuming that with the new version comes more active interest (and also could maybe have a buddy in the form of an IVAN variant development subforum).

The pros of visibility, IMO:

1. We get to see what progress (if any) you're actually making.

2. We get to know you actually *are* doing something and that this isn't just some kind of vaporware (or that the project to resurrect IVAN has died somehow).

3. People who haven't joined and aren't sure they want to might have more incentive to do so, or at least can judge more accurately whether they'll want to or not.

What are your cons?

Well, as I said I had no idea mirror equipment could spawn. Seriously never found anything like that in my IVAN experience (so when equipment disappearing was mentioned I was like "what??" ).

I had no idea that could happen. I thought something bizarre like a monster zapping a wand of mirror had happened or something.

They... disappeared? But that would mean there was either a teleporting mage on your level or they were mirrored, wouldn't it?

Permanent levitation? Sounds good to me, maybe you should just stick with natural limbs.

Well, the times when it wasn't working the yellow arrow did not process as either of those.
