Hello everyone.

I noticed there has been a lack of "challenges" for a long time (e.g. since the bananator challenge) So I decided to think up one of my own.
Here are the rules:

1) The only weapons you are allowed to use are daggers, or in LIVAN, main gauches as well, dual wielded with a lantern

2) The only armour you are allowed to wear is a cloak which can be enchanted as you like, and can have X resistance, The only other armour you can use is boots.

3) Until you find a cloak, a leather/hardened leather armor is acceptable, but must be dropped upon finding a cloak, regardless of its properties.

4) You can use a short sword up until coming across a dagger if none is to be found.

5) The dagger and lantern can be hardened, changed or enchanted as you see fit, as can the cloak and boots.

6) ARTIFICIAL LIMBS ARE ALLOWED

7) You can never run unless panicked.

All scrolls are allowed, with the exception of the Golem Creation scroll.

9) Praying to gods is allowed, but using their weapons and armour is not allowed, unless they are in accordance with the rules. Silva's wolves are allowed, as are angels.

10) Saal' thul counts as a dagger

11) NO WIZARD MODE

_______|*END RULES*|______________________________________

These rules have been made in accordance to the way a Tonberry (a final fantasy character) would behave. Advice as to improvements will be accepted.

THE AIM OF THE GAME:

Your aim is to get as far as possible into IVAN whilst in accordance to the above rules. Another aim is to get the best (Highest-ranked material, and most enchanted) dagger, lantern, boots and cloak, each of which will be judged seperately. Resistances will not be taken into consideration (e.g. a +20 leather cloak of fire resistance is not judged better than a +21 leather cloak)

For the judgement of the above, you must take a screenshot of when you die, showing your inventory. It must be the full screen.

Also, there will be judging of who has the best equipment at each major point in the game, so take screen shots showing your equipment when you beat Genetrix, Rachel Decos (if you can and want to), The Werewolf, Enner, Elpuri, Oree and Petrus (even more ).
Named monsters also count, but you will only be credited for having defeated them first, equipment at the time is not relevant.

SCOREBOARD

FURTHEST INTO THE GAME:

BEST OVERALL EQUIPMENT UPON DEATH:

BEST DAGGER UPON DEATH:

BEST LANTERN UPON DEATH:

BEST CLOAK UPON DEATH:

BEST BOOTS UPON DEATH:

BEST EQUIPMENT PER MAJOR POINT

Genetrix Versana:
Rachel Decos:
Werewolf:
Enner:
Elpuri:
Oree:
Petrus:

Ok everyone, have fun! And I hope that people actually like the idea of this challenge and actually give it a go...[/u]
If people actually give it a go, I plan to run this till new year.
System would indicate in graphic if person is mounted on horse or not.
Same system also show if person mounted on boar, elephant, polar bear etc.
Or if person mounted on ass.

Ok ok, i'll lessen them

lessened... by about 5.
Any suggestions?

EDIT: make that about 6

EDIT2: Thought the material restriction was a bit overkill, so it has been removed. Sorry for changing the rules around so much, for those of you who are actually doing the challenge, if anyone is.

If only I hadn't been doing my Tonberry Challenge...

EDIT: Killed by Rondol...
equipment at the time:

Cloak: Phoenix Feather cloak of fire resistance +2
Right-Hand wielded: Meteoric Steel dagger +5
Left-Hand wielded: Lantern
Boots: Phoenix feather boots of agility +4

Had 3 cans of healing liquid and 2 bottles, unfortunately got killed while drinking one... was also Loraticus's champ too so that sucks bad...
Saal'thul "disappeared" within the first few turns of we wielding it strangely enough. So did the magic whistle.

I notice you're using Media Center style.
Proudly bringing disaster and mental scarring to Attnam since '05!

Yup yup Media Centre PC.

Yea it sucks to lose him, hopefully I'll find his bones file some day.

Oh and let it be known it is entirely possible to beat Elpuri under these rules... heh heh.

It took a nearby kamikazi dwarf, 3 backpacks of gunpowder I was lugging around, a ring of polymorph and one of polycontrol, and about 4 wands of fireballs I had been saving up. Obviously being the champion of mortifer also helped, but I had to give Neerc-seulb to the angel he gave me because of the rules.

sure, you wear them around your neck. Obvious, there's even a slot named by them?

Wouldn't an amulet be considered as armor? Block attacks? In real life though.

...do you have any idea what an amulet is, Muffenz? If not, let me explain...

Amulets are essentially necklaces (which may or may not come with a locket containing small things like pictures of family). IVAN, like many other roguelikes, has magical amulets, which are distinguished from ordinary (read: useless except to look pretty) amulets by the enchantments placed on them. In real life, an amulet might stop a badly aimed bullet, but would do nothing for a shot to the head, an axe/sword/knife slash or a mace/club/fist swing. IVAN, like many other roguelikes, assumes that unless your amulet is specifically designed to add armor class that all enemies are competent enough to get around it, thus it does not add protection in IVAN (nor would it be very likely to provide protection even in the case of the badly-aimed bullet; certainly not a high caliber bullet).

Ehh... Just popped into my mind, are you talking about wearing amulets in general or as a part of this challenge?
