I thought I'd share some things I've learned for dispatching the really dangerous named baddies - namely Ur Khan, Golgor Dhan, and Sherarax. These apply to natural limb games, if you are an artificial limber then kiling these guys is easy.

General tips

Beef up Astr, Dex, Agi, and HP. it's nice to have over 30 for Astr and Dex (over 40 is possible and I have topped 50 once). Agi is best over 20, 30+ is awesome. HP below 200 means hello one-shot death, I prefer 300+ for safety.

Use wands of slow (on them) and haste (on you) I pretty much always get perma haste nowadays - it rocks.

Don't use wands of striking, fireballs, or holy bananas, or mines or backpacks. A pile of backpacks and a well timed wand of striking means an easy kill but it also means good bye goodies, Ur Khan has 4 bottles of ommel urine, Golgor Dhan has 3 SoEA and 3 SoEW, Sherry has scrolls of taming and wands of haste (can;t remeber how many). I think Ur Khan has best loot and Sherarax the worst of the three.

Do use bear traps. Mithril or better. Octiron or adamant bear trap rule and valpurium, well they are fcuking awesome. plant a bunch of them like 4 or so and then lure the baddy over them. Whack away at them until they nail you with a good shot and then teleport away and drink a healing potion. Repeat.

Enjoy your loot!

I think you covered everything. Bear traps are frickin sweet. If you don't have enough HP, just lay the 4 traps in a row. Wait for the baddy to get trapped in each one. Hopefully they will cause damage and possibly break some of the gear. Look for messages saying that they got stuck in the trap. If their arms are both stuck in the trap, they won't be able to hit you! Once they get through the traps, teleport them away, repair any broken ones, and lay them again.

Oops, I forgot one of the best tips.

Get some unenchante nymph hair gear (gloves, boots, armour) drop a pile of it in the name baddies way. They will drop their kick ass gear and equip the nymph hair stuff making them way easier to kill.

I was actually going to mention them dropping their gear for crappier equipment. But I did not know that nymph hair would be the best material, so thanks

Somehow that feels like an exploit... Is it?

Well I only do it if I have low HP when i meet them but i would say it is less of an exploit than SoCMing your limbs to PF/AH/SS/GEF which is legitimate gameplay. I have been killed by a nymph hair wearing Golgor Dhan before. It is also waaaaaaay safer to just blow them up with two big backpacks and a wand. Is blowing them up an exploit?

Well obviously not. I'm not trying to criticize you man, I'm just saying that it feels a bit like you're abusing an incomplete AI system which has poor judgment of item quality. It certainly doesn't SEEM like a planned or intentional feature. Regardless I'm only asking. You don't need to get all hostile on me man.

Besides, you're like everyone's IVAN hero. You've beaten the game far more times than anyone else here, and far more thoroughly too.

Lol. I wasn't hostile. its the damn internet emotion doesn;t come through. Everyone has their own playing styles, eg. I don;t use artificial limbs because it makes the game too easy. I was just wondering what you opinion was of exploding baddies. So, whaddya think? Exploit? or smart IVAN?

You can find mithril bear traps than spawn randomlyand there are octiron beartraps in the secret room that spawns randomly in GC7-9 (not to be confused with the GC2-5 secret room which usually has a mithril trap). For better beartraps you have to SoCM them or harden (adamant). I thought a diamond bear trap would be cool but i haven;t made one yet. Perhaps it is possible for octiron/adamant/valpurium traps to spawn when level is created but it has never happened to me.

Edit: actually come to think of it I have found adamant traps that spawn randomly but it is very rare.

Exploding? I'd say that's a viable strategy. Cheap, yes, but exploit certainly not.

I've definitely found adamant bear traps randomly. Never seen octiron though.

octiron are only in the secret vault on GC7-9.

It's pretty easy to find if you get Vladimir to follow you on GC8, bring him up to GC7 if its not on 8, and let Elpuri mine away GC9 or just kill him and get vladimir to follow you.

Aha, aha! Slob is wrong! I found an octiron trap lying around randomly. (See the bottom message line). However, it was on the same level of the octiron trap room, which provided 2 more. Making a grand total of 6 octiron traps now in my possession

Was there an eddy in the space time contiuum on that level??

If you check item.dat octiron is not an option for random bear traps but adamant is.

I think there was. But eddys can't set traps can they? I wouldn't be surprised if one just showed up, but this one was set.

I think Slob was referring to the fact Eddies teleport things around.

No but they can teleport set traps without triggering them.

Ah, I get it now. I thought there was probably a connection between it being on the same floor as the octiron trap room.
