Inventory management is a big part of IVAN, but there are times when you absolutely, definitely NEED to get an extremely heavy object from one place to another. Like one of the Meteoric Steel chests in the secret room to a nearby dungeon shop for a nice payout SPOILER ALERT. Click here to see text.
or the nuke thaumic bomb out of the Pyramid

Solution: Stack up on wands and scrolls of teleport, pick up the big item, and teleport. Repeat as necessary. Plan carefully based on your INT and how many total 'charges' you have on hand. Don't forget that the wands can be broken for one last use.

You can even get from one level to another while Overloaded! Just remember that while you can exit a dungeon with enough gear to outfit an entire army, you can't teleport in the wilderness.

Or just get a ring or helmet of teleportation, then get teleport control. That's how I do it.

The benefit of Dark Star's method is for moving extremely heavy stuff. With a ring or helmet you have to walk around (which you might not be able to if it's too heavy) or sit around (risky if you get attacked) and wait for it to randomly trigger

It might be interesting if there was a way (wand? scroll? spell? carpet?) to cause an item to "levitate" and then follow you around like a slow pet.

Actually, this could be handled by making a magic carpet which behaves like a pet with no ability to attack and a very large carrying capacity...

Or maybe something more esoteric. Anybody know an esoteric word for a rug?

Pyrgian rug. Like Persian but different. A genie could add that to his offer of wish or slavery. Or hostile genies could drop one. I feel like it should be directly tied into genies and lamps.

Edit: Or! From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_carpet

Quote
In Russian folk tales, Baba Yaga can supply Ivan the Fool with a flying carpet or some other magical gifts (e.g. a ball that rolls in front of the hero showing him the way, or a towel that can turn into a bridge). Such gifts help the hero to find his way "beyond thrice-nine lands, in the thrice-ten kingdom". Russian painter Viktor Vasnetsov illustrated the tales featuring a flying carpet on two occasions.

Of course, the next version could feature a random chance to FAIL teleporting if Overloaded and either send you randomly or just 'fizzle' and do nothing.

Sometimes teleport fails when you pray to Sophos in an emergency and he "TELEPORTS" YOU TO THE EXACT SAME SPOT. Thanks a lot Sophos.
