Introduction: This is the first character in progress in the series called the "Complete N00b's Journey", where I attempt to see how far I get each time despite my n00bish mistakes. In this series that I am starting, the number before the hyphen signifies the attempt that I am playing, and the number after the hyphen signifies the goal that I have finished. With that, I bring you:

Complete N00b’s Journey: Part 1-1

After finishing the tutorial, I go to the underwater tunnels, where my starting dog gets killed by a zombie on the first level, and find a bronze sickle and pig iron dagger to wield. I also find a pair of troll hide boots and a pair of broken studded leather gloves of strength there. On the second level, I find a bronze short sword, a polar bear fir cloak, and a mammoth ivory bastard sword that I leave behind because it was too heavy to wield with one hand. The levels are cleared without too much trouble, and I end the part upon entering the third level of the underwater tunnels.

My next goal is to clear the third level of the underwater tunnels and dispatch Huang Ming Pong, the sumo wrestler. However, I have several questions for you before I do that though.

I found a bottle full of ommel tears, but am not sure whether I should drink it immediately, or save it. Is there any benefit for waiting until a later time to drink stat boosting potions?

The only piece of body armor I found was a broken steel chain mail that causes stat penalties when worn. Is it still better than no armor, assuming I do not find an alternative?

I think the plan is to train unarmed training to at least 6 by fighting plants in the third level of the underwater tunnels, but how can I get enough food to become bloated and apply the vomit tactic to win the fight? Should I spend the gold at the New Attam store for this task?

Pictures of the current stats of this character are attached.

Any answer to the above questions and other tips would be appreciated.

Once you find a wand of cloning, you could clone the stat potions. However, I think that in early game, every point can make a difference, so I'd drink it.

UT3 tends to be dangerous, so small stat penalties are probably better than no armor.

Yeah, you will need to buy some bananas from the store.

I'm not entirely familiar with the vomit tactic, but if it involves vomiting on enemies, I must point out: Plants are immune to acid and poison. At least, they were, in 050... I never tried in any newer versions because I assumed it wouldn't change.

Thank you for the tips everyone. Unfortunately, the character suffers a very stupid death that was caused by panic and desperation from an out of depth generation.

YASD #1: Underestimating how frail and weak I am to lightning.

I started by drinking the bottle of ommel tears and explored the third level of the underwater tunnels, where I found an onyx axe, an iron helmet, and a lump of school food. After eating the lump of school food, I get poisoned and vomit, and head back to new Attnam, where I pay quite a bit of gold to get out of very hungry status. I then go back to the third level of the underwater tunnels and attempt to train my unarmed skill, but I run into an elite dark knight, who catches up to me. Being the stupid person that I am, I desperately zap my wand of lightning to try to kill it, only for the bolt to ricochet and kill me in one go.

So, this character was real quick to bite the dust. I’m going to begin my second try later today.

I agree to equip any armor you can find. I've often made the mistake of going to GC without any boots or gloves, because I didn't want to wear heavy ones. Those limbs almost always end up getting severed.

Ouch! That was most likely a polymorphed critter, with such a way out of depth monster it's either you can escape for long enough and the polymorph ends, or you get owned. And yeah, lightning rebound (or zapping a wand of fireballs in a way that blows you up too) is a quite common YASD, I think.

BTW, a few more random pieces of advice:
* The r(u)n command is useful to get away from something, or to chase a fleeing monster.
* If you step on a gas trap, use the run command to move out of the gas faster. You will breathe in less of the gas.
* Also notice that there is both a (D)rink and (T)aste command. Taste will sip only a little from the bottle, which is useful if you want to quickly heal a lesser wound without using up the whole potion.

Thank you so much for the tips red_kangaroo and capristo. Really helpful in getting me oriented. So that is the end for this character, but I have moved on to my second character. As a reminder, there will only be four tries at most before I write my comprehensive review for this game. So far, the mechanics are rather nice for the most part, but only time will tell if this is a game for me.
