Posting in another topic made me realize I don't recall whether it's possible to destroy a broken weapon/armor or not. If not, I kind of think breaking/exploding a balsa spear into sticks of wood would be really fitting for IVAN.

It is possible, but when destroyed you don't end up with sticks and stones (and lumps), it's just gone.

Ah, that's kind of how I thought it worked. It just struck me that it'd be kind of awesome to shatter a cheap weapon/armor with enough strength and a hefty enough weapon, or from using a bomb against an enemy.

I'm not sure how the original devs would feel about that... What kind of licences is IVAN under?

GNU GPL v2 (or later).
I think any derived works must also be distributed according to the GPL, off the top of my head.

Why do you think we had all those issues with permissions? We can't do anything without approval from the original developers. Otherwise development would have resumed already.

I think we HAVE some kind of permission... Since the con, right? Or maybe I don't remember the critical details, since I haven't given this much thought for so long. But when we start taking money for someone elses work things get just so much more complicated.

But under the GPL don't you have full rights for modification and distribution, so long as you acknowledge that modifications were made to the original work? Holding a fundraiser for development should be well within the rights offered by the GPL, and the actual "permissions" to develop it further are granted by the GPL as well, so long as any releases are compliant with its terms.

these conditions, and telling the user how to view a copy of this

does not normally print such an announcement, your work based on
the Program is not required to print an announcement.)

The other problem is that we don't currently actually have people talented and/or motivated enough to work on it. I guess maybe if they were getting paid, but there's still the matter of talent.
Proudly bringing disaster and mental scarring to Attnam since '05!

Yeah, most people have been either high charisma or high arm/leg strength. There were a couple of people with high int/wis, only they trained their agility and ended up running away.

Well, the agreement we had was that we could go ahead and make changes, but they'd need final approval from the original devs. Problem was, by the time we got to that agreement, we didn't have anyone willing to code, and later when we did get people who knew how to code, we'd lost contact with the devs.

As to the GPL, I never looked at it myself, so it's possible it's changed in the time since above agreement. Or everyone else just misunderstood it. Whatever the case, it's out of my hands.

Releasing changes as an "official" update to IVAN may require some sort of permission from the devs, but frankly, we could just release anything developed as "Attnam.com's continuation of IVAN" and not need any permissions other than the GPL itself.

heh....high agility..low intel

What if coding requests where put up?

Say like...We're looking for a potion that'll teleport the user away when the users health is low.
must weight.. 25g
must be colored... rgb(0,0,0)
must be valued at.. 25 gb

and then I..erm....people can submit code to fill the question?

I've learned html, css, javascipt and have a logical mind....

I've Modded Ivan I bit.....
SPOILER ALERT. Click here to see text.
1.) Spawn with black leather and ommel hair armour...as well as bleed, vomit and sweat healing liquid....huehuehue Deadpool
2.) changing food items to fill more hunger
3.) change can materials to diamond....gold....ruby..
4.) Changed players default skin color....but not his hair or eyes since they seem randomized.

I'm sure if i decoded Ivan I'd learn a great deal more.

I've gone though the skyrim creation kit and created various woodcutting axes of different materials....so you can have leveled woodcutting axes......you can make them at a forge...but you need the previous leveled axe to make the next level...

So...to make a dwarven woodcutting axe you need a orish woodcutting axe plus dwarven ingot and firewood.

This spoiler was to stop this single post taking up so much space.

... Actually, you know what, we already have an official list of stuff to be added for the next release. Hey Cap, think you can give Pent and MadHatter the keys to that dusty old development subsection?

Yeah that old list. Careful of the moths in the dev subsection.
Actually, I can't access that part of the forum, even though I'm in the dev group.

If you do some across it or remember parts of it send me a message and I'll see what I can do about it.
