Could use some directions on what areas are supposed to be off-limits.
First level of Deep Forest makes it appear like a low level dungeon, while in the next one you get onehit by a giant eagle.

Could you offer some advice on progression?

Work a little through Gloomy Cave before you go there and stock up some wands and other equipment (namely you should be able to find or enchant better armor and weapons). If you can't beat the eagle in an honest fight then just blast the thing with wands of striking/fireballs/lightning until it is dead.
IVAN's never been about every victory being an honest one
System would indicate in graphic if person is mounted on horse or not.
Same system also show if person mounted on boar, elephant, polar bear etc.
Or if person mounted on ass.
Ivan find mounting on ass funny.

I see, Guess I'll give it another go once I have some semi enchanted/hardened gear.
Harder than the Enner Beast? (only milestone I ever acquired)

Also any other locations I should stay out of?

Play and post questions - Thinking about other people in game situations makes the game all the more interesting.

Will do, thanks.
I post my playthroughs elsewhere, but being able to ask some questions is always nice.

And if you happen to come accross any bugs or think of any improvements in CLIVAN, then don't hesitate to post those either. It will help me understand the nature of possible as-yet-unknown bugs I introduced there.

I can also let you know what other players encounter during their plays (there's a couple of new players playing it).

Well, there's always the Attnam bookshop exploit, but I don't know if I'd want to see it fixed.

Is Solicitus function to provite a clear slate to the player so he can start over with god relations, or am I misunderstanding something?

Yep. He's there as a kind of joke. I don't know in how far this function can be abused. I can't remember whether it affects prayer cooldown or not.

EDIT: It's even more powerful than I remember. It makes you forget the gods, but the gods don't forget you... O.o ...maybe I should have included that as a clue. (sorry for the rhyming)

This seems about right. He's the god of Atheism after all.

How is that more powerful?
I assumed he was for when you decided you want to worship a radically different set of gods. If they still carry a grudge against you, this won't work obviously.

There's a bit of an IVAN boom in the 4chan roguelike community.
I wouldn't be surprised if you'd get a couple more members.

It's more powerfuk because the unsuspecting player who assumes he is on neutral terms with the gods will get his ass whipped... er,

Ok, so I coded a bug.

Try grab the artifact axe off the angel in the room to the right.

After I become atheist I assume?

Anyway, is the UTFA resistance leader locked in that room on purpose?
Had to make an opening with sulphuric acid.

Was the door locked? You need to knock over the bookcase with a SPOILER ALERT. Click here to see text.

What door?
Well I guess a pick-axe would be nice to have, but I usually don't carry one, until I loot a mithril one off a shopkeeper.

mmmmm.....

If thats the bookcase in the forest..
Then i thought you purchase a scroll in the gloomy caves and put that scroll into this bookcase to open it.

....Also since im here...
You know how theres a catacomb below attnam?
I went down there and found a crypt...
I opened it and nothing was inside..
So i put a few skeleton bones into it and the game crashed...

Any ideas on whats suppose to happen with this crypt?
I obviously thought by opening this crypt some skeleton with a flaming ruby greatknight + 15 was going to chop me up into little pieces while keeping me alive as long as possible to inflict the maximum amount of pain....

Heh...One time i didn't know any gods nor prayed to any of them,
So i found an alter Valpurus and Prayed to him knowing there'd be a consequence and this is what happened next!

First time praying to him....

hits me on the head with a hammer,
Knocks me out
Angel of Valpurus appears!
my right arm is severed off
my right leg is severed off
my left arm is severed off
my left leg is severed off
stabs at my body until critical
stabs at my groin until critical
stabs at my head until critical
chops off my head
Dead.

Valpurus, His alignment is L++ (extremely lawful)

extremely lawful Seems legit....

I would of expected that kind of death from Mortifer.

Nope, so far as I know there's nothing special about that bookcase. Of course if you don't have a pickaxe you can always chuck some acid on it or kick it down if your legs are strong enough.

As for the coffin in the catacombs, we ran some tests a while back and found that placing or removing an item from it will randomly boost your alignment in either direction. So it's not very useful, but interesting nonetheless. Could be added to later.

And as for Valpurus well... He's basically THE God. He's literally holding the world up on his back.
Imagine the most pompous, arrogant, self-righteous person you can. Now multiply those qualities by 100. You now have Valpurus.
He very much considers anyone but the most pious of worshippers as a blight and gets VERY pissed if you try to waste his time by praying to him otherwise - he's got better things to do like hold the world up, ya know? He's a very old, very grumpy old frog. Silencing a single mortal who is bothering him is pretty much him doing the world a favor in his eyes.

Also we must remember that this is IVAN and as such "lawful" pretty much boils down to "doesn't go out of his way to harm humans without provocation" rather than being a force of love, peace and order.
