Pros:
Good stats
Separate HP (any damage you had as a human will not carry over to werewolf and vice versa)

Cons:
No equipment
Separate HP (any damage you had as a human will not carry over to werewolf and vice versa)

Quickest way to get it is from fountains but it's not recommended for starting characters as you lose opportunities to get stronger yourself.

Welcome to the forums, Ninjaspud.

Lycanthropy can be earned early at the werewolf level in the gloomy caves (~GC 2-4), by eating the werewolf's corpse. Earlier - only if a werewolf spawns elsewhere, or (mostly temporarily) from fountains...

Quite high stats compared to early-game enemies, especially high agility (therefore - speed) and instant healing by the time of the transformation into a werewolf are the obvious pros. For cons I would say that the fact that the werewolf doesn't train/evolve/advance very well (each time he gets back to standard werewolf stats, no way to keep any boosts), that NO equipment can be worn (lack of which for example makes even the plants on UT3 a danger). Oh, and can't use pick-axes either.

If I manage to get lycanthropy early, I usually stick to it, as a werewolf carries more and has a better chance of survival than a beginner player character. A good thing is, that the priest in the cathedral can, at just about any time, cure lycanthropy for 100gp. The priestess of Silva also will, and is cheaper, but I'm not sure how much.

Only while in were-form, and the stuff gets just unequiped, so it's not lost btw.

and how are transformations done? e.g via changing at certain times in game or probability to change to and from wolf altering from time in game or something else?

If you have polycontrol, can you control your werewolf form in any way?

Changing from time to time, but I don't know at what intervals. More often you'll be at wereform I think.

Yes, you will be asked something like 'Do you want to transform into a werewolf y/N ?' each time a transformation was to occur, but with the default selection to 'no', so it won't be a nuisance and major interruption.

ok thanks for the polycontrol tip bt i was hoping for info on probability to change e.g in nethack on the 30th of a month say 7:00 pm "non-gametime" you have a 1/3 chance of turning into the wereform bt during the day you are likely to change out

No amulets of unchanging, sorry. Polycontrol is your best bet.

Note "control" only means that you'll be able to choose not to turn into a werewolf when it prompts you, you aren't able to turn whenever you want with that amulet.

If you didn't already know.

Even considering how often werewolfing pops out... not really. Still not safe.

Ah, as far as I know none of the material limbs heal themselves (except for the human flesh ones hurr and possibly the other flesh materials, but those don't come with the kind of stat changes an octiron or phoenix feather arm will). Best you can get is a scroll of repair for artificial limbs; so you'd better pick up high quality stuff.

As far as stats, it depends on the material. Metals are strong but not flexible, which means generally (for example) high AStr but lower Dex. Cloth materials are much more flexible but not as strong, so for example high Agi but lower LStr. The more Int you need to change your arm/leg into that material, the higher the quality and thus the better the total result will be. Exact stats on what you get with different material limbs does not appear to be listed in the wiki, so I don't really know that (nor would I care to research it; if you want that info all you need to do is start a wizmode game, cheat up some scrolls of change material and take notes on the stat effects of the various materials you're interested in).

Ah, citrine and rose quartz. Yeah, that info is berried in the "anything relating to IVAN you're too lazy to make a new topic for" topic. Problem is both of those have 1 flexibility (comparable to most metals) and 75 hardness (which puts them between copper and bronze in terms of how hard they really are). Not exactly long-lasting or impressive in terms of statgain.

With all rose quartz limbs, you get 75 arm strength and leg strength and 4 dexterity and agility. Dexterity being how well you hit and agility being how fast you move, this means you are indeed stronger but also goddamn slow and awfully bad at hitting things. Oh and you'll never upgrade those stats because artificial limbs don't get to improve like natural limbs do (unless you use a scroll of harden/change material on them to get a really good sort but then hey look at that no more healing).
