"Yes, master. Golem kill human. Golem then return."

Golems are magical constructs made of various materials through the use of shem - the Holy Words of a god associated with their material. Golem's attributes depend on the material it is made of and some can be exceedingly dangerous. However, most golems are fairly slow and thus easy to kite and being an unliving construct, no golem can regenerate lost HP.

On death, golem will drop a single lump of its bodily material. This can be useful as you can get a lump of Ommel Cerumen from ommel cerumen golem and gem golems will leave a valuable stone (such as sapphire or diamond). Also note that golems cannot speak, but you will find occasional engravings they make instead.

You can create pet golems using a Scroll of Golem Creation.
