Corpse cloning/mirroring technique

Requirements

• Cleared GC7 and have a corpse of mystic dark frog.
• a wand of cloning (unused, at least 1 zap and apply needed)
• a wand of mirroring (unused, at least 1 zap and apply needed)
• a wand of resurrection (empty one is ok)
• Your character's Int/Wis is >= 25/15 (which may be harder to attain than other requirements).
• a wand of slowing (optional)
• a wand of haste (optional)
• items you want to clone/mirror (optional; 6 cloning slots, 2 mirroring slots are at least available)

• (Step 0: optional)
  • Zap a wand of slowing on a corpse of mystic dark frog.
  • Take note of the time at which you killed the frog. (Corpses will spoil in 10 hours.)

• Step 1
  • Haul the corpse of mystic dark frog to somewhere safe. (Attnam or New Attnam is best.)

• Step 2
  • Clone the corpse of mystic dark frog twice along with other items you want to clone.
  • Drop unnecessary items on the ground to get unburdened.
  • Be careful with acidous blood. You should be levitating in the whole process.

• (Step 2.b: optional)
  • Haste yourself.

• Step 3
  • Mirror a wand of resurrection, 4x corpses of mystic dark frog, plus an item of your choice.
  • (You could mirror a wand of haste and empty-then-apply the mirrored wand of haste to get hasted for a long time.) (Subjecting the corpses to haste beam will cancel your slowing attempt at Step 0.)

• Step 4
  • Use the mirrored item of your choice.
  • Arrange the mirrored 4x corpses around your character.

• Step 5
  • Apply the mirrored wand of resurrection. (Be careful to not subject the real corpses of mystic dark frogs to resurrection beam yet.)

• Step 6
  • Start science-talking to the frogs resurrected (in a manner such that you talk to them the same number of times).
  • Keep talking to them until they disappear (30 to 60 minutes).

• (Step 6.b: optional)
  • Repeat the process from step 3 according to your mirroring charges and/or needs.

• (Step 6.c: optional)
  • Haste yourself.

• Step 7
  • (Assuming your wand of mirroring has only 1 charge) Apply the wand of mirroring to mirror the same items like Step 3.
  • Use the mirrored item of your choice.
  • Now you have 4x mirrored corpses of mystic dark frog, 4x real corpses of mystic dark frog, a mirrored wand of resurrection.
  • Arrange the mirrored/real corpses of mystic dark frog x8.
  • Apply the mirrored wand of resurrection like Step 5.
  • Now you have 4x mirrored mystic dark frogs, and 4x real mystic dark frogs.

• Step 8
  • Talk to the mirrored mystic dark frogs first like Step 6.
  • After they disappear, next are the real mystic dark frogs.

• Step 9
  • Congratulations! Now you should have gained 20+ Intelligence (for normal characters; gains will depend on your character's strength and weakness).
  • Use your newly trained intellect to enhance your gears.

Questions and answers

• Why not just clone cans of ommel cerumen? Because...
  • They may not be generated, or eaten by monsters before you could reach them. A mystic dark frog will be generated in every game (if you choose the Gloomy Cave scenario).
  • You may be very lawful characters, so praying to Mellis was not an option.
  • Talking to a mystic dark frog gives greater gains in Intelligence and Wisdom than eating a can of ommel cerumen.
  • Corpses can be mirrored, cans of ommel cerumen cannot.

One drawback to this technique is lawful gods don't like necromancy. If you are lawful, and resurrected a lot of mystic dark frogs, piety hit is quite big. On the other hand, if you want to switch to chaos gods for later levels, then you will be incidentally profited with this science-talk session.

• Can I tame a mystic dark frog rather than kill them?

Yes, but you need to kill it before cloning it. Only one character can be cloned per cloning charge, but corpses can be cloned more than one at a time. And be careful to not talk to it by accident!

• Can I use a wand of cloning rather than a wand of mirroring?

Yes, but I assumed you have more wands of mirroring than wands of cloning; therefore, mirroring charges are more cheap. In the context of science-talking, mirrors are as good as clones. Their limited lifetime is also convenient because they don't get intermingled with your next mirroring sessions.

• Couldn't we kill a mystic dark frog after science-talk, then resurrect it with a wand of resurrection?

Unfortunately, kill-then-resurrect is not an effective strategy when it comes to science-talking. Corpses will remember the number of times you science-talked with them.

• Isn't cloning the corpses one more time, and mirroring 5x corpses of mystic dark frog would be an even better way to gain Intelligence and Wisdom?

Yes, but remember at Step 7 you have resurrected 8x corpses which is the maximum body count you could resurrect by applying a wand of resurrection. If you have at least a wand of resurrection with 2 charges left, then you could raise 10x mystic dark frog corpses at Step 7.

• Can I combine this technique with Kaethos/Angel cloning technique? Isn't it make this technique even more efficient?

Yes! Do it if you can!
