No, it doesn't. They are awesome though. It's good that you're carrying a few, not just one. One of the worst things that can happen is for the mystic light frog to teleport your light source away.

Ring would be best, or just continually zap yourself with wands. Cloak is not a good idea, since fire/elec resistance is more important.

Atomic you probably just accidentally killed one of them. I believe you have to kill Richel Decos, his guards, the shopkeeper, the banana grower encourager, and the tourists. Let the elder, sumo, priestess, slaves, palm girls, and ostriches live.

+5 should work too. Were you carrying anything explosive? maybe the mine set off something else in your pack, such as a wand of fireballs. Then you'd be screwed

Yep, antidote liquid rocks. Hard to come by though. If I don't have any, I just desperately try to run to the priestess. Every time I lose a limb or two, just drink some healing fluid to get it back

If you have +6 fire resistance you don't need to worry about the minefield anyway.
