Hello, I am new to the forum and decided to join because I couldn't find any information about bone files.

My Question is, how exactly do these work? I have not been able to find any information about them. At least not the information I am looking for. I thought that they were generated when one of you characters die but, have have had few few characters die but my Bones folder does not contain any files? Is this normal? If so when are they created?

Any help would be great.

I don't know what this means exactly, but I have 9 files in the Bones folder and 68 characters in the list of adventurers.

Sometimes I find the ghost of a previous character nearby his corpse. I happen to find 3 different ghosts in the same level once...

Bones are made for any characters that die in dungeon levels (UT and GC; only exception I know of is UT1). If you die in New Attnam, Attnam, or the world map, no bones file is made.

That probably explains it. I just had a character die recently in UT4 and noticed a bone file was made. Thank you for your help, all.

Off topic, but perhaps you shouldn't enter UT4 with your starting gear and stats, you'll encounter some nasty light crystal golems, that can one-shot you easily if not prepared.
Right, now you killed me. Happy?

it is random whether or not bonefiles are created. Sometimes they are sometimes they aren't. I don;t know what the chance of it happening is but I would guess less than 50%

Yeah, I sort of figured that out when I was killed by one.

Continuing off topic. If I have wand of invisibility and enough hard pickaxe (usually mithril) I always go pick one light crystal. But I'm not very good with this game so don't listen me blindly.

Thunder hammers, hattifatteners, turox, and wands are other ways to mine crystals. Meteoric steel pickaxe is all you need for prurple and blue light crystal but green light crystal needs something stronger (like mithril). Mined crystals are great for getting Mellis or Silva to like you again.

Or just for being lightweight, unbreakable light sources.

Speaking of light sources, I know this may be a stupid question but, when you have a lamp does, it need to be equipped to enhance your light radius or just in your inventory?

It works if it's in your inventory. When you wield items you use them as weapons. Hmm, I wonder if lamp/latern works as flaming sword: "You hit zombie with latern. Your latern burns zombie..."
Edit: It didn't but this message was worth trying it: "You strike the young female carnivorous mutant bunny! You advance to skill level 1 with your latern! The young female carnivorous mutant bunny is slain.
