Bone files you don't want to receive

Having experienced some of these nasty deaths that even leave a bone file, I now decided to open this topic for all those who want to share their "bad bone files".

Just now, I found a chameleon whip on UT:1. Didn't know what it was, but it seemed good (4-8 DMG, extremely accurate) so I put it into one hand. I found an obsidian helmet of poor quality and an iron dagger, then I attacked a room of giant mushrooms about 20-30 paces away from where the whip was found. Here I discovered what it did - the mushroom transformed into an adamant golem. Don't want to have that again!

That being said, I also figured out what was the deal with the mystic dark frog on UT:3 - I think it hopped out of a fountain, pulverized me in one hit, then came back to haunt me off-screen when the bone file came up again. I hope I won't get that a third time, although it's a nice level, with a Mellis altar and all.

I always hate it when I run into a bones file where the previous character was killed by a named creature. Having Rondal wandering about UT2 has brought about the end of several characters...

Also, a tip for you, fine sir. Whenever you enter a new level and you recieve the message "You smell the stench of death" it means there is a bones file on the level.
System would indicate in graphic if person is mounted on horse or not.
Same system also show if person mounted on boar, elephant, polar bear etc.
Or if person mounted on ass.
Ivan find mounting on ass funny.

Pretty sure the message is actually along the lines of the level feeling familiar. Perhaps you are thinking of another game?

My worst bone file is by far in GC6. Right next to the staircase is a mistress torturing chief, armed with a +9 whip. I think I've lost three well geared characters there, the latest one having two +15 octiron thunder hammers.
Right, now you killed me. Happy?

Mistresses can suck me vermis

Now Ur-Khan is a badass when it comes to harvesting players.

I remember losing at the bare entry to GC6. He was next to the stairs. Now each time I reach GC6 with a fairly 'roided character, I make sure I have an amulet of Life Saving. There are 3 high-power boned chars out there now.

You're quite right wbout that, I'm more than sure it means you've stepped to a bones file. How could you know it from before, if you've never left New Attnam before?

I'm also pretty sure that named creatures prevent bones creating. Correct me if I'm wrong. I was wrong.

Alveradok, I can assure you that mistress is at least as bad as Ur'Khan. You would need to have huge amounts of agility to even have a chance to act before your head turns into a wobbly mass and you pass out. If your head can survive the blow without severing, that is.

I'm pretty sure all i've ever seen is "This level seems oddly familiar. Like you have been her in one of your past lives."

Are you using "vanilla Ivan" to get the stench of death message?

I once had a bone where Rondol had Vermis. I've seen that same file for 5 or so times, always getting my butt kicked by Rondol and an increasing number of ghosts, all around the stairs. Of course, it's possible that only fairly high-level named monsters wll prevent bones to be created.

I used to play CVS, but the few recent games I played on LIVAN. Can't confirm ever seeing it in LIVAN, as I've only tried it a few times. But I don't see a reason why it would've been removed... I've seen both "This level seems oddly familiar. Like you have been her in one of your past lives." and "You smell the stench of death". Odd? There's also the one where you get your memory messed up, and the levels get all shaken. Not stirred.

EagleV my dear! Erno my dear! My deers!

a) "This level seems oddly familiar. Like you have been here in one of your past lives." - happens when bones of a character with the same name as Your, descending, current, alive one, are present, ALSO You get this message in a situation in which there are bones of several characters, INCLUDING one named the same as Your current char.

b) "You smell the stench of death" - happens when there are bones of a character with another name.

Apple - I'll post vids/screengrabs of me chars bashing the hell out of mistress torturing chiefs with +8 whips, and perhaps being killed by Ur-Khan. Just to continue my whining about Ur-Khan and reinforce the 'he be stronger' stance with sum xtra hot argumants. How 'bout that ?

Good job Al!

And Erno: 1, I don't get your first question. 2, I never name any 2 characters the same, which would be why I only ever get the "You smell the stench of death" message.

No Al, you don't get it. If you encounter a mistress in a normal situation where you can see her before attacking, you can just "s"earch and wait for her to get close, and get the first strike. But when she's waiting you downstairs you have no chance to act before she knocks you unconscious.

ah cool, I didn't know you got separate messages based on the name. I did die from a chameleon polymorphed into a valpurium golem on GC2 once. I had just found a flaming valpurium long sword +10 and while I was celebrating, the golem appeared and killed me. A few characters later, I found the flaming sword again and was like, "Yes! I thought I would never find one again but I guess I just got lucky twice in a row" - it never occurred to me that it was the bones file. And of course the golem got me again. But later I found out those swords are temporary and disappear anyway, so it wasn't much of a loss

Am I correct that I cant get a bones file with a named baddy in it to spawn unles my char would otherwise be able to spawn said named baddy? I am asking because I have a 1337 bones pile on UT2 thats been sitting there for 2 yearsa i would love to get but guggy is the one who did me in (I forget why my fairly beefed up guy was going back through the UT). I am assuming that I never see the bones because I am never strong enough to generate guggy when i first enter ut2. I guess if I got the Belt o Lev and skipped the ut until my guy was roised up i could gen it. but only if guggy hasnt already been spawned right (you cannot have the same baddy spawn twice, no?)
Booooooooooo!
