If the player does not have any shiny items on them, the magpie will simply attack the player.
However, they are weak and easy to kill when cornered - note that the Giant Magpies giant magpies cannot open doors. If you corner it one against a door or chase it into a room and close the door, it won't be able to escape. That is, of course, until another creature opens the door.
