Xinroch is a real meanie. His sword can burn an unprepared adventurer fast, but the fact that he can not heal himself will make him an easy target for hit-and-run attacks. The arcanite shield he drops is a nice addition to any adventurer.

Only one kind of books is found in IVAN - the holy books of various gods. Reading a holy book will teach the player the magical rites needed to contact the god in question. Simply said, you can pray to the god after you have read his book.

Books come in three colours for the three Alignments; yellow for lawful, blue for neutral and red for chaotic. Each time you read any book, your alignment slightly shifts towards the faction of the book. It also make the god a bit friendlier towards you, but your piety for all gods of different alignment will be decreased, in a way similar how prayers work.

Holy books disappear after a random number of readings, around one to six.

  • Reading a holy book while Confused may waste the book in addition to having a small chance of inflicting a temporary random status on you.
