Lanterns are very common tools in the world of IVAN. They are usually wall-mounted for illuminating the interiors of buildings and rooms - especially important in underground levels. A carried lantern will likely be your source of light in the Gloomy Caves and for some time after.
While they will never need to be refueled (probably powered by magic), lanterns have a major drawback: the fact that glass isn't all that strong. They can be hardened to Illithium if you so desire, but in the long run a light-bearing crystal stone or weapon is the best solution.
