I would assume tripping balls would be a side effect.

"What kind of a retard brings a ranged weapon into a dark, dank, can't-see-more-than-10-feet cave?"

One who can obviously run faster then his enemies and pelt them with ammo? One who doesn't want to get into melee combat with his enemies? I am pretty sure that Legolas didn't drop his bow and arrows the second he went into the abandoned Dwarven home. (I think he was with them).

Though mind you that your not in a cramp cave... each square represents over 5 feet making certain rooms in the game larger then my house.

I mean it is hardly stupid to bring bows and arrows into the dungeons (Afterall, it would be like saying Strike wands are stupid since all they are is a strong ranged weapon)

Where does it say each square is 5 feet? If that's true then the main character is 5 feet tall and 5 feet wide, and hedgehogs are 5 feet long.

And have you ever shot a bow, crossbow, or a gun? You can't aim for shit unless you're standing still. Hell, you can't even string an arrow on a decent bow while moving unless you're a professional. Wands work because there is no load time and they're highly maneuverable...you just aim it and something in front of you asplodes.

And if you want to bring LotR in to this, think about this point: Legolas is certainly an exception because he is an elf and trained in how to use a bow unlike anyone else in the LotR universe. But guess what? In all the other siege scenes in the books and movies the archers are up on a wall firing from hundreds of feet away.

I just don't see the point in ranged weapons in IVAN though. You're in a fucking cave! What kind of a retard brings a ranged weapon into a dark, dank, can't-see-more-than-10-feet cave?

Exactly what I was about to post Chaostrom.

Y'see, I could understand random speculation if this was a new game and we were all talking about it but most of us have been playing it for years.

620310, champion of Valpurus/killed Petrus ending.

115687, killed by a hattifattener on GC 11

Those are my two best.

I kind of disagree with the first two though. I always kill the dog right at the beginning for a nice meal, some end training, and because he eats good stuff, Wielding heavy weapons isn't a bad idea because you can get some nice astr.

...pwnd is all that needs to be said.

I'm sure something similar was planned to be implemented in development, but as for now you can only fill cans with liquids.

Don't get me wrong Neo, I'm all for adding new stuff to the game. Just make sure what you're adding makes sense I guess is what I'm trying to say. Having weapons made of magnesium or lead would be utterly retarded. Magnesium would shatter on contact with anything other then flesh, and lead would be ridiculously heavy to the point of worthlessness except maybe as a club or something.

After looking over your list again here are my suggestions to add to the pile you've probably received already:
-No radioactive metals. Who in their right mind would wield a weapon that gives them cancer?
-The evil materials don't seem like they would fit in the game very well IMO, but if you really want to add them then you also need to add some sort of lawful materials and then make wielding them change your allegiance to the gods in a way similar to Mjolak. Should be pretty easy to do and would make them actually unique.
-No mercury, because once again it makes no sense.
-I really like the idea of philosophical materials. You could do some very interesting things with that (love has a chance to charm, for instance).
-The other types of leather would be alright I guess, but don't go overboard. Maybe just add a Cured Leather or Embossed Leather or something since leather isn't used for very long in the game anyways.
-Coal is a great idea, and I don't know why it isn't in the game already. It could be a horrible weapon material, but it easily hardens into diamond with a scroll. Could be cool.
-The food materials are pretty interesting as well, but I'm not sure what their use would actually be. Care to elaborate on that?

That's all I have for now.

Well I was mostly making my bill as a twist on just saying "Stop making suggestions that are completely unoriginal" because I figured saying that would be too asshole-ish. I wasn't actually being 100% serious with it.

But yes, I agree 100% with you Z. There are multiple references to both ADOM and NetHack in IVAN, and there's nothing wrong with it as long as IVAN doesn't because some poor bastard child of the two.
