Talk with him with C for chat, not V for vomit.

Please don't tell me that this has happened to you.

I just noticed that even when you have gas immunity, encountering a bones file still gives the message "You smell the stench of death."

There should be a check for gas immunity upon entering a bones floor, and if the player is immune to gas, there should either be a different message, or the warning should be removed completely.

Any suggestions on a good site to stream it on that doesn't have arbitrary delay like twitch? Preferably something with IRC chat (like twitch) so that a separate IRC client isn't necessary.

Is there any chance this could be ported to any other streaming site, or is whatever you're using restricted to Twitch?
Twitch enforced some stupid 20-30 second lag not so long ago, although it does not really matter for IVAN considering it's turn based.

It's certainly possible. The input is just taken from a text file containing the IRC log, and the video is streamed via OBS.

Here's the program used for input. I hastily edited it to allow the use of , and . since the comma is essential to IVAN, but I have no knowledge of C#, so that's about all I could do with it. Some of the issues with input could be fixed by remapping the buttons directly in-game, but I can never get IVAN to compile, so someone else would need to assist with that.

I couldn't find a proper solution for the inability to press < or >, but since activity will surely be incredibly low, and I'll be at my computer for most of the time it's up, I can just press those manually when necessary.

R.I.P.

Only thing I can think of is running it in a VM...

Dedicating an entire VM to IVAN would certainly be overkill.

You can use DOSbox:
  • Get DOSbox and download the DOS version of IVAN from ivan.sourceforge.net
  • Open dosbox-0.74.conf (or click the DOSbox Options .bat which will open the .conf file)
  • In the [render] section of the dosbox .conf file, change
    scaler = normal2x
    to
    scaler = normal2x forced
  • Run IVAN from DOSbox and it should upscale it 2x (or you could use the normal3x scaler if you have some sort of obscenely high resolution monitor)

Highly enchanted boots of kicking with a very heavy material might help with the damage. You'd also need to rely a lot on kicking things against walls for the extra damage.

I may need to try this next.

I did a quick little test in wiz-mode, and with +15 valpurium boots of kicking and GEF legs I was able to kick my way through the Dark Level without much difficulty. Oree's lair was quite a bit rougher, but it should certainly be possible.

The fact that you can reach/kill Elpuri pretty much on command (and with flesh weapons no less!) baffles me. You ought to write up some strategy guides (or hell, just take some videos of yourself playing) for those of us who are still lucky to get past Enner.

I feel so stupid for taking this long to realize that oil lamps are actually functional lamps...

You could replace the unfinished Attnamese Catacombs with the Cold Storage.
