Yet another detail no one had ever managed to stumble upon during all these years?

An excellent find, even if of very situational use. Does the kobold meat cause them to lose unconsciousness? If yes, that's yet another easy way to deal with Genetrix.

The simplest way to stay alive: don't take unnecessary risks. This is the single most important piece of advice for IVAN and pretty much any roguelike in general. Torso red with your opponent almost dead? Back out, heal up, try again. Can't take on an NPC in straight melee? Use wands, throw weapons, avoid it or skip it until you can. Patience gets you far, think your every step through if you must.

Knowing which actions are risky is of course the harder part, especially in IVAN. In general you won't find anything capable of one-shotting you without a "You sense danger" notification, so as long as you pay attention to the damage you are taking in any fight you should catch on the general power levels of the NPCs rather quickly. The Dwarf Fortress mentality of "losing is fun" goes a long way as well.

For specific hints and tips, there's plenty of material hidden in the topics in this subforum. The wiki is sadly rather lacking for the most part.

An easy way to get minions stronger than you get out of the way is to tell them to not follow. If standing next to you, they will automatically try to take a step toward you and swap places with you. They may take a short while to free themselves if stuck, but they should still prefer to move towards you AFAIK.

For minions weaker than you, you'll just have to wait for them to free themselves if they get stuck to move past.

Or even better, don't keep any minions.

Of course, it's easier to just carry a small chest for wands you don't immediately need. Good point though, if you're going neutral and have nothing more useful to harden, certain wands are an option as well.

Restricting the dipping into corpses to empty cans could work initially as a dirty fix, getting blood instead of flesh for bottles or weapons etc can be worked out later. Maybe reuse the "there's a fountain here, want to dip your bottle there?"-dialog for corpses on the ground? ("There's a corpse of of a male tourist lying on the ground here, do you wish to jam your runed leather whip +2 into it?" -> a runed leather whip +2 covered with human blood)

I rather liked Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate myself back when I took a few courses in C#. It's got a lot of stuff you probably wouldn't end up needing, but it has marvelous debugging and built-in compilers for quick and easy testing. The 2013 edition I've yet to touch, 2010 is very similar to 2012 for basic usage at least. If you're unsure about the specific version, just grab Ultimate.

Of course that's just based on two basic courses worth of code. And yes, Dreamspark is rather awesome for students. c:

Most of the people are still active, as in you can still catch them(/us) on the forums once in a while.

I should pick up shooting a bow at some point. Shame the compound bow we had was old enough to have its string snap when pulled.
