how much does reading non-aligned books piss off your current gods? I have a bunch of L books and am C - - - . I want to train Wi fast but am afraid of ruining my rosy relationship with the chaotic gods.

A fair amount it seems... This is the result of a single reading from a book of Valpurus (starting with 0 relation for all gods - having higher WIS will cause the increases to be greater and the decreases to be smaller):

its interesting that reading a Lawful book has a negative effect on your relationship with sophos.

Yeah interesting... I guess it makes sense in a way, seeing as Sophos is L-. I suppose by that logic praying to f.ex. Loricatus yields a negative effect from Atavus upwards and from Infuscor downwards, with L and C type gods remaining with zero effect?
What happens if you read through all the books in order from L++ to C-- in one sitting?

Everyone ends up hating you...
EDIT: Also of note is the fact that reading a book of a god you don't know (ie. it teaches you how to pray to them) doesn't affect your relation with them or any other gods - it only gives you the ability to pray to them, just like stepping on an altar.

It's not a straight L/C coin, you'll only be able to pray to one alignment up/down of your current favoured god without some careful balancing, in which case players have been known to go two alignments. That's to limit how many gods you can pray to.

I think reading a valpurus book should have a zero effect on sophos. If being lawful makes sohpos angry he/she/it should be moved to the N pantheon.

It is not about HOW MUCH lawful Sophos is compared to Valpurus. It's as if Sophos is a normal law abiding citizen while Valpurus is more an obnoxious, over-zealously righteous and self-opinionated allmighty jerk who thinks that everything must be strictly legal while the only law he acknowledges are his own beliefs.
What I want to say is that you can be lawful and still shun that jerk Valpurus.

right, but the effect should be zero not negative. I could understand if zealots of Valpurus did nothing to impress sophos, but if its offending sohpos then he/she/it is really more neutral than lawful correct?

I don't think it's wrong. Centre-left/right political parties can dislike the more extreme far left/right ones, no? Of course, centre-left will hate far right and just dislike far left.
This is very black-and-white, obviously, and not even remotely as nuanced as it should be. But you get the point.

I agree that it's working the way it should.
I think of it as more of "lawfulness on a scale of 1-15"

Don't feel sad, I practically live just for those moments.

This isn't the thread for it, but under your edit of traps on the wiki you forgot exploding door traps. I suppose I could correct it myself but I have no idea how.
