Got my first victory with natural limbs today (nobility ending). It was the third overall, but one (a High Priest victory) was in CLIVAN, and the other one was a freedom ending on a character I was trying to get killed (I changed my limbs to ommel hair on GC4 then sprinted straight to Elpuri and back).

As usual, everything went smoothly through UT-GC4; I got the belt of levitation, all of the chaos gods loved me, I'd already picked up a Neerc Se-ulb, and I even found an AoLS early on to calm my nerves.

I left that archangel down there while I finished up GC4 and some science-talking so she could help me out with the Enner, but she ended up being even more helpful than I expected, taking it out long before I reached it:

At this point I headed back toward New Attnam to take on Decos; I gave UT4 a peek on the way, but that visit was cut short when I saw who was waiting there for me:

Viva la revolución:

Along with the mistress from Nefas and two tamed guards from New Attnam I went and took on Danny, netting some nice new gear for the mistress:

Ran into Ur-khan on GC6, and the ommel urine he dropped brought my AStr up to magic number 41, the point at which one can dual-wield Neercs without any difficulty!

Elpuri went down quickly, but he was the least of my problems here:

Took about a dozen striking charges and a half dozen teleport charges.

My equipment before going through the portal:

GC10 had the golem room, which wasn't much trouble. GC11 had the mage and orc rooms; I ended up just teleporting across and running downstairs. On GC12 I abandoned my chest full of wands/loot, taking only what I could carry unburdened. Once I stepped into Oree's Lair all the mages started blasting me, so I teleported next to Oree, at which point a mage blasted me and triggered a nearby wand of fireballs, taking out Oree. Thanks for the friendly fire!

I booked it out of there immediately after picking up the shirt. One of the mages followed me through and I took him out with a wand of striking, since I was panicked and had one arm. After that I headed back to Attnam and eagerly handed over the shirt.

Final equipment:

Because I ditched my other Neerc when my arm got blasted off in Oree's lair, and I was low on offensive wands as well. I figured I'd just take the win this time and do the dangerous stuff on future characters.

Nice victory Pent. You could say you single handedly defeated Oree

EDIT: HEY! One of your guys is called Irving Washington! Funny Catch-22 reference

Oh very nice. Though I do think that you could have just healed up and gone back for that other Neerc.

Nice one. How many healing / teleportation / slow / haste sources did you have remaining?

Good job! I'm absolutely not jealous in the slightest! Damn you.

No, seriously, well done. If you aren't proud already, you should be

I had about 10 cans of potions left (mostly troll blood; a few healing liquids).

Here are all of my remaining wands:

Most of the contents of the chest I abandoned in GC12 were wands of lightning/fireballs and some utility stuff like door creation and acid rain, plus a bunch of striking wands zapped 2-3 times each against Sherry. I did leave about 6 SoCMs behind in that chest, so I suppose I could have gone back down and given myself some PF limbs if I wanted to take on Attnam safely (I didn't want to take any chances there with only 16 Agility), but having made it that far with natural limbs, it wouldn't have felt nearly as satisfying.

Batman?

Is it worth it to chase down the mages on Orees level before taking him on? or is it better to just haul ass to his chamber and pound him in melee?

With only two wands of tele remaining and only 16 AGI, you'd probably not have been able to take on Petrus. Major props for not caving in with artificial limbs.

Always take the mages out first wherever and whenever possible, especially in GC13! They're really the only really dangerous thing down there even counting Oree himself. Losing equipment to teleports is just brutal.

Nice one Pent, looks like a badass character.

Has anybody ever actually taken on the mage room? JoKe?

I've only beaten Oree once that I recall (in LIVAN so a lot easier) and I'm pretty sure I skipped that room too. However I did take the ones on Oree's level out.

Also, did you do any other AStr training or was it just from wielding the heavy mace?
#12 May 14, 2014, 7:30 pm Hide

Pent

No special training, aside from eating a few spiders for some END, and a bit of Sci-talking.

Only a few times. You kind of need to be strong and fast enough to kill them quickly but clumsy enough to not end up whacking limbs off instead of body hits. Hitting that sweet spot is rather difficult if you're not consciously building towards it.

Can mages cast without arms?
#15 May 15, 2014, 7:22 am Hide

chaostrom

Yes. The spell-casting is an inbuilt ability, which is why Ischaldirh's snail-pace-speed makes him terrible to play, but fearsome to battle.

Maybe Dual Turoxes would help? are they fire resistant?

I don't think they are, at least not according to anything in item.dat. Speaking of which, does anyone know if cloaks of fire/elec/acid resistance increase their resistances with enchantment? I always assumed they did, but I can't find any evidence that they do.

Based on a short empirical test in WM (air cloak of fire prot +6 [6 AV] vs. iron cloak of fire prot [6 AV]), the enchantment level has nothing to do with the resistance bonus.

Pent

Good to know. Out of curiosity I just tested to see if wielding cloaks/rings of fire resistance would let you gain the effect, but it seems that wielded items can't impart resistances: I also tried adding a FireResistance line to Turox's script entry, but wielding it had no effect on my fire resistance.

is sir hadellac galladon tameable? I am about to embarq on my assualt on attnam - wish me luck.

That's weird. I definitely would have expected enchanting cloaks to increase the resistance
