I gazed upon the IVAN sourceforge page and lo, I saw a curious explosion in the number of downloads

Obviously someone's done a new review of the game, or some of our members have been spreading the word!
At this rate it's only a matter of time before we get even more forum members and more "OMG WHAR IS IVAN 0.6?!"
Well maybe. Maybe we could use this to motivate us to actually do something in the IVAN development section
If we're lucky we'll have new form members who might be able to be of more help.
[/wishful thinking]

Holy piss! That's a lot of downloads.

It's probably just spam bots though.

Hey, new guy here. Somehow, IVAN has become super popular on websites like 4chan. So if other new people show up, expect to kind of be jerks.

Wow, really? Thanks for the heads up...

Super prediction in the title there Warkeck :[
Lets hope the 4chan'ers don't have anything against it and as such won't start DDoSing or trolling.

Yeah really. Now is not a good time to have 1/2-developed beta forum software :/

On the other hand, cool that the game's still gaining popularity years after development stopped

Beat, are you serious? That's terrible news. I don't want a bunch of /b/tards in here. I used to be one, I know what they're like

I can't believe people are playing this game right now. That's so weird.

Well, let's hope we survive this storm. I don't like the sudden influx of 4chaners any more than you do, but at least Ivan gets some deserved attention. Yay optimism!

Close automatic forum registation and provide new accounts only to people who write e-mail requests. Also, block unregistrated editing on wiki to prevent flood of dickjokes flying around. There are ways to protec this forum integrity and well-being from forum trolls and /b/tards.

You guys are overeacting. More people playing IVAN can't be anything but a good thing. Besides, even if 4chan likes your game does not mean that their all going to pile into your forum like a bunch of clowns into a tiny car.

This game was never posted on /b/. It was posted on /v/. /b/ doesn't care about vidya.

As for it being a bad thing, it isn't. Look how popular Minecraft got after 4chan found it.

And for the record, I did find this on /v/, and am very happy I did.

Well, that makes me feel better. I never browsed much of the rest of 4chan but as I understand it they aren't nearly as bad. Unfortunately I generally equate 4chan to /b/.

I'm part of the new wave; I just downloaded IVAN in January. I just beat the game for the first time today, I got the freedom ending.

I've been lurking the forums for a while, I learned a lot by reading the entire "anything relating to ivan you're too lazy to create a new topic for" thread. Lots of good info in there for a game like this that has very little documentation. I'm happy to see an active and knowledgeable community here, my thanks go out to you guys that make it happen.

IVAN is a fun game, I like it because you can get right into a game and have a decent set of equipment by the time you're out of the UT. In most roguelikes you have to identify items and make sure they are uncursed before you use them, so it's a long time before anything interesting happens. I'm a very experienced nethack player and IVAN is a fresh change in the roguelike scene, exactly what I was looking for when I downloaded it. Anyways, this is my first post on the forums, but I'll start contributing more now that I've got a handle on the game.

Heh, Vlad avatar, nice. I should warn you, not everything in the "anything relating to ivan you're too lazy to create a new topic for" thread is accurate, but the currently-false-and-not-specified-as-such details are rather minor and shouldn't have any impact on your gaming.

Welcome and congrats on finishing it greqrg! Now try some of the harder endings
