Scrolls of Change Material

How are they best used? Especially when I'm in deep and have yet to find a wand of mirroring or cloning.

Also: I killed something invisible the other day that was wearing spider silk chest armor and it dropped a SoCM and wand of cloning. Any idea what that was?

it is the only truly invisible creature in IVAN i think... since it can't be detected by ESP or Infravision

It can, however, be detected by land mines.

As for the SoCMs I generally just use them to change one of my arms to the highest tier material in the cloth category (leather<hardened leather<troll hide<ommel hair etc.) as I can, and then use scrolls of harden material to beef it up from then on.
You could also do the ommel cerumen exploit if you wanted.
