This and that reminded me of this. We were told that the next quest to be implemented was one where you must rescue your child. Some aspects are already in the game, such as the child, and the ability to give rings and amulets to Petrus' wives. Discuss.

To me, it sounds like you steal one of Petrus' wives, start a family life, have sex, have a kid, then something happens, your child is kidnapped and you have to go rescue your kid.

The problem about that plan is to have the player do those things. IVAN gives the player quite straightforward ways to proceed at this point, so this quest too should have something pointing to it's direction. Maybe Petrus would give one of the wives as a present for the valiant knight, or maybe it could be included in one of the chaotic victories? f.ex.

*while "cleaning" Attnam, 6th wife of Petrus comes running to you*
"Oh, I've always loved strong men! You killed my husband, who was strongest of all, please make me your wife instead (Y/n)"

When you exit the empty Attnam or claim the throne, a black screen follows, which tells about the happy life you lead for 10 months, a child is born, grows a bit, is stolen and then you go after him. Depending on how many years you'd spend idle, your stats and skills should go down a bit, gear rust (maybe you'd have new, royal gear instead?) and many other things happen in the game. GC should be working as a mine maybe, trade with New Attnam commenced and so forth.

I somehow don't like the thought of guessing what holybanana meant with this quest and finishing it according to our guess... (but that's not a problem at all, go ahead, I don't think he would mind and maybe we will get something nice)

Well Z, as I've said in the shoutbox, this is just theoretical at this point. I thought it'd be safe to discuss it since we've already been told about it. Once we have a layout we'll have to get authorisation before actually adding it.

Perhaps it could be the "sequel" to the first quest, as suggested by Erno?
Or a side-quest even.

Whether it's placed at the end or the side, it needs a circumstance, a perpetrator, and a dungeon. If it's going to be a sequel, I could see the GC being used again...

For a sequel:

Circumstance: Since Petrus was questionably "killed" for the better endings, he could reappear (sans nut) to take your firstborn as revenge and maybe to sacrifice to Mortifer, since Valpurus failed him.
Perp: Vengeful Petrus
Dungeon: A crater? Created by Petrus upon his return?

Not bad, not bad at all. My only criticism is that it needs Petrus to come back, and I'd prefer a new foe, but other than that it's a good solid plot.

How about a wizard? Izzy's there already, we might want someone else. He could need the baby for some dark ritual, research, to feed his pet, whatever.

Hmm...

Maybe... A mischievous scientist (science being new to the world) who works on genetics comes to IVAN_World? He creates many mutant monsters (explained: carnivorous mutant bunnies, two headed moose etc.) in the process of his research, and is ready to branch his work to human subjects. But any old human will not do. He needs a child, one who has yet to become adjusted to the world. One whose cells are easy to tamper with. Seeing as you are deemed the "most valiant" or "most chaotic" or... you get the idea, he decides that your offspring will make a fine specimen, and while you are off visiting New Attnam (or an entirely new city altogether) he makes off with your firstborn. Then when you return home, you call for your child, but he/she never comes. During your search for him, you discover a note, detailing the reasons for his capture, "for the good of science". You have heard there was one who dabbled in unknown arts, and so you head off to find him, slay him (or capture?) and save your child.

It would be nice if the scientist had a monologue before the battle, trying to convince you that science is good and that some sacrifices must be made or other stuff along those lines. But of course, because you're a "barbarian" you shun science and attack him anyway. An option to spare his life, or end it would serve for the Lawful/Chaotic endings. Of course, Lawful should be made harder due to you having to, oh, I don't know, knock him out while his HP is critical?

Or maybe, for a more "dramatic" twist, there is something you must do earlier on the game in order to ensure the scientist's experiment does not succeed on your child. And if you don't complete that which you should've earlier... well then, that leaves you fighting your mutated child as the final boss. Of course, the mutant child goes out of control and crushes the scientist before the battle. This would serve as the x2 ending, as it is easier than the others.

Dungeon: A laboratory hidden inside a labyrinth of some sort?

I think the mutants are already explained (IIRC Kaethos says something about some events which was a origin for the mutant asses and the Genetrix Vessana). And apparently science is not so new in the world... but a nice idea anyway.

Yeah, the mutants are a result from a war that happened recently in the IVAN world. There was some kind of magical carpet bombing involved... I think Jenny is a tool of war designed at that time too. I like 4zb4's plan though, it has potential.

Well, one thing is for sure. Someone needs to code sex. Who's up for it? (It must be CHA related, as stated by Kahvi in the quotes thread)

So, what? Are we going for full-on visual sex here? Or "child safe", "black screen with jazz music" sex?
#15 Nov 22, 2009, 3:48 am Hide

Ernomouse

We could get Blob to make a good picture involving bananas, whips and mistresses, and a text next to it. "You have great sex blah blah blah" or something. Or we make an action key and have it happen as reading on the game screen, where time just passes... If ou are interrupted, we need some kind of berserker effect.
#16 Nov 22, 2009, 5:37 am Hide

Planplan

And what happen if you press the key while alone ?

Mmh...
Nevermind, I know the answer
#17 Nov 22, 2009, 8:49 pm Hide

chaostrom

Well 4zb4, considering we get blood spatter, maiming and limbs flying, a "child safe" anything is a moot point. Also, how visual is it going to get considering we can count individual pixels?
#18 Nov 22, 2009, 10:17 pm Hide

4zb4

Hmm... I think the easiest way would be to make it a "black screen" event then. Maybe with a nice black and white picture of a bed with people obviously doing something under the covers in the background?
#19 Nov 23, 2009, 2:17 am Hide

chaostrom

What, a white cover heaving up and down?
#20 Nov 23, 2009, 4:17 am Hide

4zb4

Something along those lines...
OR... Maybe we re-use the title picture, removing the moth things and putting another face above the already existing one... Heh heh.

So your wife is a corpse? Evil
#22 Nov 23, 2009, 12:56 pm Hide

I somehow like the idea of watching the pixels merge. But then again, these kind of situations are handled with black screens. These kind of situations being talking to Petrus, which does not look like sex but gives you a quest. I've never gotten a chaotic victory, but I assume that you get a similar black screen of victory.

Y'know what, after some IRC discussion yesterday I'm against the black screen. Let's make it an action.

Hold on a second... that picture in the background of the menu is a corpse?!
