Here's a tip
SPOILER ALERT. Click here to see text.Put your wands (and holy bananas) in a chest. Small wood chests are pretty light weight and easy to carry. That will protect them from exploding. Of course, you might want to keep some handy for emergencies like teleportation or invisibility.

Not nearly as useful as teleportation but I've used it to escape veteran kamikaze dwarves before

It also makes golems much more manageable:
1. wait for golem to approach
2. attack
3. move out of the way (golems that can't see you will move in the direction they were attacked from)
4. abuse 's' until the golem is next to you again*
5. repeat
* this reminds me that 's'earching is far too quick; it should take as long as waiting with '.', or at least swap the times of s/. since searching taking less time than "waiting" is just weird.
