Get the cream out of as many mods as you can and combine them into a single version of IVAN. Use the CVS version as the base, and ask the mod authors about it before ruthlessly copying their work into ours. I'm talking about the script only this far, mostly items and materials. If you can go deeper, then go you! Please also make a history file about what you took and where from. Pay attention to balance and if they're really needed.

Izzy and 4zb4, I was thinking that this could be a job for you two. Izzy because he's been playing IVAN for so long and 4zb4 for being more familiar with the script files (?).

EDIT:The attachment contains my document on ideas. If someone's got spare time you could try to script something from there. However, right now bugfixing is the top priority, so do that instead if you know how. Post your results on scripting in this thread with the code tag.

And where are they supposed to store their work? And how will they work together?

IMO, you should get the keys to IVAN CVS first, this will solve these problems. (Well maybe learning a new tool is not as essential for this particular task, but this will let the world see that IVAN is officially in development again, and in a long run, it would be hard to live without it: if one person changes something in code, CVS allows to easily share it with other coders and testers (as long as they are able to compile it).)

If this is to be done, a few things need to be run through first.

1. Authorisation from Kahvi
2. Permission from authors
3. Analysis and balancing, simply throwing the lot into one won't do

I recommend using the latest CVS version that has Blob's artwork as the basis. It should then be put together with Z's 3D + Sound version. These add to the experience without adding anything to the game. The others should wait until point 3.

How about you let me splice everything together, THEN we ask for permission before publishing it?

We already have that 4zb4, it's called IVANX

My 3D + Sound version already includes the latest CVS...

Either:
1) That makes this thread redundant.
or:
2) You took it to mean combining the compiled versions together rather than all the little mods and items people have made.
or:
3) Whatever. I don't know.

Z: Maybe I just don't have the latest 3D + Sound version

4zb4: Go for 3?

EDIT: Yes, I just checked it, the latest 3D + Sound does have Blob's art. My mistake.

EDIT: I've just consulted Kahvi about this, he will go through the variants and give us a list of approved features. If you're wanting to do this, I suggest looking up the pieces of code for the new things in the variants so you're ready to go. Sit tight in the meantime.

I've seen it

And, about the alien mod "level jump" and "know gods", maybe you should note that it's based on IVAN 0.5, and not on any CVS version like most of the mods.

Maybe I included a more recent SDL.dll file with my archive too. The last ones correct a lot of key problem. (on my laptop, with the SDL.dll from the original IVAN 0.5 archive, I can't enter UT or the city from the world map. With the latest SDL.dll it work like a charm).

I doubt it's to do with the version, I have a copy of 0.50

So it's the SDL.dll

So, I copied the SDL.dll from your alien mod and replaced the others with it.

They all work now.

Good to hear.
How goes obtaining permissions?

You can be sure I'll let you know what's approved.
